I guess I'm just never going to outgrow the 90s.
To this point, even though I’m getting an EV, they’re indeed hard to get excited about. They’re efficient and practical. And boring. Except maybe the Tesla Model S Plaid, but even that, while it goes like stink, is super heavy and is said to be inadequate, or was, in braking and because it’s so heavy will never be great on a track.

I guess a Rivian sort of has a heartbeat.

I had a 1997 or so GMC Yukon that was a cousin of your pictured truck. I’d likely still have it except for rust. Engine and transmission were trouble-free.

You might spot them in The Lives of Others (2006), which I think is one of the best films about Soviet-era secret police.

I agree, that is a good movie. I also had a high school German teacher who spent some time explaining life on the other side of the wall to us privileged kids. Can't recall if she shared pictures.

For those of us who remember Rush, the late drummer, Neil Peart's 'Silver Surfer' car collection is being sold at Pebbles Beach.

    He had good taste.

    Damn, Neil.

That collection reminds me of the Sothebys auction that was being held at the Arizona Biltmore last winter when I was there for a conference.

A friend of mine was given his grandmother's Aston Martin on his 16th birthday, just like the one in the photo above. It's a rare factory automatic. His Dad told him if he got one ticket it would be taken away. Never happened.

I wonder how many tickets he had to hide!

Years ago, I saw a silver DB5 cross my path several blocks away as I rode to work. It was early on a Saturday so there was no one around, it was only in sight for a moment, and it was long gone when I reached the cross street.

One of those ‘did that really happen’ moments. I’ve liked Rush since I was a kid, maybe it was Neil!

I don't think it is a DB5. The Borg Warner 3 speed automatic did not show up until the DBS around 1967 and then stayed through the V8s. The DB5 originally had the David Brown 4 speed but halfway through production run they switched to ZF 5 speeds.

The DBS is one of my favorite Astons. I think it is hilarious in the 1969 'On her Majesty's Secret Service'. Both the car and the movie are under rated.

Totally agree. One of the better Bond films. And I like almost all of them in their own way. George Lazenby was a good Bond in his one appearance.

I also think Timothy Dalton is underrated and was let down by mediocre scripts and acting by costars.

The car is the same as the one in Goldfinger in every way but the transmission. His grandmother had very deep pockets and I am all but certain it came from the factory with an automatic. I put a specialist in touch with my friend- said specialist wanted to buy the car- but he doesn't need the money and still has the car.

I stand corrected. You are right. An earlier version of the Borg Warner was available.

At the beginning, the original four-speed manual gearbox (with optional overdrive) was standard fitment, but it was soon dropped in favour of the ZF five-speed box.[6] A three-speed Borg-Warner DG automatic transmission was also available.[9] The automatic option was changed to the Borg-Warner Model 8 shortly before the DB6 replaced the DB5.[7]

and that is one cool Grandma.

Needs some TLC, but that could be a fun project. I have a soft spot for old Volvos_ I had an 86 740 turbo wagon with a manual transmission years ago. I miss it.

That almost looks like a car Steve Dallas would drive, if it were filled with sorority girls with small noses.

^^^ indeed. If memory serves, his car desire was a magenta '83 Buick but the car above would probably do as a substitute.

We're in the same boat. We both teach community college, and we both drive 3/4-ton diesel pickups. We'll look for a used camry-like car for a commuter. Her truck gets 20 mpg and I get 22 mpg, but it's more about not putting miles on the trucks. For the lizard part of my brain, I would like a 90s Chevy or GMC 1500 with a 350 and 4x4. Put some loud dual exhaust on it, and good to go. A high school friend of mine restores 68-72 GM pickups. He starts with a body-off restoration, and adds a rebuilt 350 with a three-speed auto. The profit margin is pretty large.
