That's a 2014 E350 Wagon with the sports package (as opposed to the luxury package). Honestly, I never thought I would consider an MB wagon (the AMG being the exception but out of my league) until I did a test drive. The handling surprised the heck out of me. And it's pretty darn quick for it's size and motor.

Very nice. My BMW wagon was a rare find since it had the M Sport package and not the XDrive (AWD) package. Makes wagons so much more fun when they handle like a sports car. Yours is probably considerably more spacious too. Very awesome.

Just turned in my Impala rent-a-car. Stories of GM's success are highly exagerated. It's most distinguishing feature is huge seat bottoms. Custom made for America's massive badoinkadoinks.

Was it a true 2014 Impala or the 2014 impala Limited which is produced for the Fleet/Rental market and has the same tired design of the last 8 years?

    My new money pit:

1974 BMW 2002 tii. No rot. Matching numbers. 5 speed conversion. 3.91 and lsd. Definitely a project that is going to eat shit tons of money and time.

The paint job currently on it is TERRIBLE.

Really really hyped to blow shit tons on this project and have fun ripping around in it.

I know some of you duds have/had these - any recommended projects? Run away?

I had a 73 Torino wagon in HS had alot of fun. So when the wifey wanted something bigger for vacations I got her the closest thing to a wagon made in the blueoval line up. 2013 Flex Limited 365 HP twin turbo AWD paddle shifter. It's pretty darn fast for a shoebox and handles great. i might through a Torrie Tune in it once it's broke in.

Very nice that it has the 1968-1973 bumpers instead of the boat anchors the 1974-1976 models traditionally sported.

Then it will be faster than my mx-5, which would probably fit inside. Technology is great.

ok, curious about the worldview of the mx-5 afficionado ... if you wanted to address exactly the same goals that you address with the miata, but for the purposes of this question you could NOT own one from any era, what are the next 5 most interesting roadsters / sports coupes / hot hatches / whatever that would float your boat? just curious.

    Depends on what you want:

Hot hatches - nothing, and I've driven a lot. Too much fwd/power...antimatter?

Sport coupes - they're still too long and not 'verts. So nothing.

Roadsters - new there's only one: ND mx-5. I'm afraid it'll be synchroed to death, but the promise of lighter weight with decent power is...exciting (Goodwin Racing just sent me spam as I type, natch.) Old cars, short of joining CCC-Manhattan or funding the local Alfa mech's kids' education, just don't work for me. Lot of guys around here are into the vintage autocross thing, which would make great solo weekend drivers.

Bottom line there's simply no substitute for a car you wear, in which you sit on the powered rear axle, doesn't have a top and pivots around you. I don't drive a lot - when I do it better be memorable and reliable, that's the way I look at it. YMMV.
