I sort of love trucks with three pedals and a floor-mounted shifter because I'm forced to give up delusions of efficiency. I have to surrender to the timeline of truck, and anyone who might consider me "late" has to learn that I had no option.

I learned to drive a manual first with a tractor, then an F650, then a school bus. Even at 13-16 years old, those clutches felt predictable.

By comparison, the clutch on a normal car always felt finicky. The first time I got in a manual Civic I killed it. I never understood why the clutch on small cars felt so touchy.

I've had two Hondas with manual shift and the clutch engagement was always a moving target, even when brand new. Like the clutch springs started out soft and got softer when the engine warmed up. I've heard a lot of explanations, but I think that Honda sees that as a feature not a problem. I want a clutch pedal that fights back.

I drove a Honda Accord with a five speed for several years (87-92). After 100k miles, I got in the habit of putting the car in reverse before starting the engine if I had to back out of a parking spot.

Wow, that is something special. Amazing to see a car of that age in such condition.

Anyone know what is going on with the crossover between intake and exhaust manifolds? I am also curious about the low carb position.

The 2 manifolds being on the same side need to be positioned in such a way as to feed or exhaust the valves of each cylinder, so the intake needs to be besides the exhaust for each cylinder. The carb is an "up draft" type. I don't know much more than that.

That was chump change for a Ferrari, regardless of the shoes…this ‘62 GTO just sold for $52M. The most recent owner was in involved with the Escort…the radar detector.

same price. I doubt there was any celebrity premium in this. Ferrari F50 is a great car.

I’m aware there are vintage rare birds that sell for far more.

I’d have thought the repaints might hurt the price, but no idea whether aging rock star ownership impacts price in the same way that a Paul Newman owned car might.

Add: I guess I could have just searched auction prices, which I just did: US $ 2.5 - 5.5 million with prior celebrity ownership apparently having little influence on sale price.

I get the appeal. During college I had a close encounter with a 308 GTB sitting in my Girl-fiend's driveway. i remarked "does that really say Campagnolo stamped in the wheels?" Remarkable THAT was the take away right? The next day she asked if I would drive it back from the bar where her dad passed out and ran it out of fuel. Honestly, embarrassing it took so long to find the fuel door release. Driving that thing back home required yet more humiliation as I had to remove my shoes. Yep, it's a struggle having big feet ;)

Along the same lines as Josh, in 1983, I was asked to drive a Triumph TR7 from Dallas to Austin. I'm only 6'1" with size 13 feet, but I fit poorly in that car. It belonged to a friend's dad and my friend didn't know how to drive a stick. At 18, unless I took my mom's car to the store, I was driving manuals. Back then, the speed limits were much lower so the drive was close to four hours and I basically rolled out of the car when we arrived.

I liked the TR7, when it wasn't in the shop. This particular one was Jaguar-like with regards to its electrical system. The dash lights didn't work most of the time and sometimes you had to cycle the headlight switch to get both headlights to open. It looked cool sitting still.

Speaking of big feet, a number of years ago my brother in law had a pretty nice Dodge Dakota. He was a 2 footed driver, right gas-left brake, and the last time he drove that truck he got into a Stop Right Now situation. He hit the brakes but the truck accelerated, and the harder he pressed the faster tthe truck went and he ran into a street light avoiding hitting anyone. Big feet in work boots and the right got trapped under the left pressing the gas harder the harder he pressed the brake.

We drove past the truck on the way to the hospital and to this day I don't know how he lived thru that one, the engine pushed the firewall and floorboards into the dashboard.
