Amphibious "auto" emerging from SB harbor today, beautiful day but on the hot side, note the Land Shark name, I first saw that on SNL comedy skit, then a small builder produced Land Shark bikes, I'm betting the owner took the name from either or both.

Rode in a duck once, for a prior employer’s party. Never again. I’m no sea captain but I did grow up with boats, and that tourism company duck ride was a sketchy experience.

That chalk spray pen is slick, and this is the best argument for a Festool saw system that I have ever seen. Very cool video.

No kidding, I just put that pen in my wishlist so I buy it with my next Amazon order. Track saws are awesome. Mine (not festool) is cordless and I use it in the parking lot before loading material into the pickup. It saves me so much time.

That guy and his dad are re-building a 18th century (I think that's correct) farm house in France, and the carpentry and masonry skills are very high level.

And Festool stuff is just incredible. Just there dust extraction system is terrific. And then there are the track saws, etc. etc. etc.

That Mafell saw in the video is an amazing tool. I have their inverted radial arm saw. Those two have it down. I am impressed and inspired.

I saw one with every bell and whistle at the Grand Canyon when I drove across in the spring. 6600 lbs, the owner said and he was getting 16 mpg with a Subaru motor.

Yep…the VW Thing. Our daughter was with me when I spotted this yesterday and of course, she said that I should see if the owner will sell it. No thanks. It looks like that particular car had a roll bar installed, but given how slow they were, I don’t know that you could go fast enough to roll it.

I agree! You'd probably have to wear full coveralls and a balaclava to drive it in a sandy climate (it's perhaps not intended to be driven anyway) but it's a really cool project.

Rolling down a state highway with a neighbor back in '86 in his VW Thing when we noticed the front passenger wheel shoot slightly ahead of us and off the shoulder. We leaned back and hoped to peel off speed without incident. I don't know if the leaning had any impact, but we didn't cartwheel and his dad showed up pretty quickly and bolted it back on.
I never thought of it as much other than a fun-vehicle...and not one that was particularly well engineered (though it was probably a user-error by my neighbor, who passed a few years ago at ≈ 50 from CONTINUING to find recreation as king to all else).

^^^ That's even better than the story I can tell about the heater hose disconnecting on my friend's father's Corvette. The windshield steamed up instantly, forcing us to stick our heads up and out of the open T-top at more than 100mph, but at least all of the wheels were on.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is closing out this weekend and I missed the Walnut Street show on Monday…work got in the way. We will be at Schenley Park today and tomorrow (after a nice bike ride of course) where the vintage races are held. More to come and oh, Ferrari is the marque car this year.
