I know that I post this every year, so check your calendars as the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix events start next Friday, 15 July 2022 and run through the 24th. Definitely an awesome series of events and a great opportunity to see an array of classic and exotic cars, some racing and some displayed over a 10-day period.

Seen as I rode past a random used car lot in Brooklyn this afternoon. Needs some body work and paint at least.

^ Oh yeah, the 1960 Buick Electra. I had one of those in college, two-tone desert sand and chocolate brown. With the flat-top hardtop roof. It had a high-compression 401 and a Dynaflow, and the driveshaft ran in a torque tube, and it was smooth, smooth, smooth. Super clean low mile car. Driving up the Las Vegas strip in that car after driving overnight from Santa Fe was one of the high points of my driving life. A drunk guy ran into it while it was street-parked in front of my house.

I'm selling my 2012 TSX wagon with 91k miles. Yesterday I took it to local dealers who I'd been referred to by submitting a KBB inquiry. One offered $7,500, another $9,000 and I decided to trade it in for $11,000 (which also knocks down the purchase price of our new car, so I'll add another 6.25% to that $11k.) So that's a swing of a little more than $4k with a sample size of three!

But this variation is nothing compared to what Edmunds is showing as a purchase price for a 2012 TSX wagon: $13k to $25k! Holy hell, I paid under $31k for mine ten and a half years ago.

So maybe I could get a couple thousand more by really hustling and doing a private sale. But I'd rather drive it to the dealer and drive home in my new car.

    Good luck!
Is the new car the RS6 mentioned upthread? Inquiring minds would like to know :)

I think dd just fine DavidS. The last car I sold was to Carvana. The deal was so good I waited a week to shop it around.

    It's a sellers market yo.

Have you seen an actual Brumos Porsche at this event? Or is this graphic more of an homage?

Dan…I don’t know what a Brumos Porsche is, but I’ll keep an eye out, as the marque car this year is Porsche, which is why there is a Porsche on the poster. (See last three links on bottom of page)

    Thanks for the links.

Brumos was an iconic racing team that ran the #59 Porsche with the red/blue stripe livery that’s on your PGH show poster. I’m no expert but I know what that car looks like, and that Hurley Haywood was legendary behind the wheel.

Cutting through a small industrial park on the way home from a ride and I encountered a couple of garage doors open. Peaking inside there were about 10 Shelby Cobras, from barn finds to fully restored. A mile from my house and I never knew this existed.XNZOTEdOYUPcrjW_KrLrwVjx6pqWI3RmNWUdOD7-2u0-2048x1536.jpgNWb5cSdtfB93r3brTENW8z71E2OdjaAW9QXiySu2ubo-2048x1536.jpg

    No, this one:

    iris.jpg

It was supposed to be built this month.
But it arrived at my dealer yesterday!

I need a few days to get the cash into my checking account, but we should have it before next weekend.
    GO!

Look at all these wagons, hanging out in my 'hood this weekend:

    IMG_2310.jpg

    IMG_2311.jpg

    IMG_2319.jpg

We picked the car up Friday, but after crawling up Route 3 back into town neither of us was enthusiastic about getting back behind the wheel.

We spent a couple hours yesterday going thru the configuration of the cockpit screens, connecting CarPlay, and taking a first crack at learning details about the car (e.g. pressing and holding the unlock button on the fob will lower all the windows and open the moonroof. Whee!) Oh, my wife got behind the wheel for the first time and drove to a local muni lot to test the self-parking feature.

So this afternoon I went for a drive. Some first impressions:

    • Driving through the city to some country roads, the car is so damn quiet. Leave the settings in "Comfort", stream some music, and relax. The torn-up New England roads don't disappear, but so much of the noise and choppiness was soaked up that, if I didn't know these local streets, I would have thought they were nowhere near as bad as they are.
    • When I got some open, winding road in front of me I toggled into "Sport +" and everything firmed up - suspension, ride, steering. And the car held gears to higher revs, but not ridiculously so. It's not a sports car but it is a pleasure to hustle. It switched from coddling to fun. Very cool!

    I'm going to keep it.
    GO!

Iceland, where tires like this actually get used. Overheard joke: How long are Iceland winters? I'll tell you as soon as this one is over.

RW I am pretty sure I know that Porsche. It was a former One Lap of American car? Anywho, it was purchased by a fairly new to Autocross local (MD/DC/VA) It was "well used" at the time. Looks good.
