    Default the problem with butlers

inviting people into your life in such an intimate way can be quite dangerous
do you really want to trust them to wiggle your big toe in the morning?

Socialite Anne Bass, boyfriend were held captive by fired butler and injected with liquid: charges

chasea, you must have some nightmarish butler stories to tell, yes?

Yeah, but those kinds of stories can go either way. Its a job that toes the line between professional and personal. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/...n6971864.shtml

I do have stories*. Oh, if you only knew...

I will tell you this. Everyone wants something. Everyone has a secret. I can find whatever it is they think they want. I can keep my mouth shut. Discretion is part of the gig. But only I decide whether I do it or not.

The art of good business is being a good middleman. Welcome to the layer cake.

*A baby elephant, shipped from India, vaccinated, inspected, and delivered to your front door costs about 35K. Takes about a week. I don't know what you're going to do with it, but that ain't my problem.

yes, yes, i didn't mean to besmirch the profession
perhaps the thread title should be "the problem with butlering"

in any case, it is the intimacy of the relationship
that can be the source of great value as well as great risks

btw, what's the cost of a brand new custom made bicycle frame
delivered to the front door of a client who was never on the waiting list?

If I ever get wealthy enough to hire a butler, I think it will be a septuagenarian smack addict with good war stories. And a 3 piece suit is a hard requirement.

You'd be surprised. I'd reckon asking an presumed "CHEF" or person with claimed competence in the kitchen to make an simple poached egg or better yet an cheese ommlett is one he!! of a good test. Sounds simple but to do it well takes skills.

Well here is the thing Chase, inviting an trusted soul into your life should not be a burden infact I see it as motivation to lift your game. I do better , in general, when the things I do are watched over by someone I respect. Instilling trust and respect would be something I'd expect from an well trained Butler. Non?

The problem with butlers... is that most people don't know what they do. So when you interview for a gig, you're overqualified. No, I didn't get the gig. But I did get a very polite rejection email.

    Linking this because its urgent.

besides, you really didn't want to wear a Members Only jacket all day long anyway. ( sorry, fat pitch ).

ps. I use to room-service at the Westbury (69th and Mad) in a former life. I collected more stories in one year than in the past 15 at my current gig. Makes for great bar talk doesn't it.

The problem with butlers is they're not cut out for office work. Training in the office this week before I move out to my new property on Monday. I dunno how you office dudes do it.

Still doing dirt for the other half. Only this time I get an electronic rolodex with every name I could ever need. This is going to be interesting.
