    Default wood furniture repair help

in the handmade threads, there seems to be a large number of people with wood skills, please help:

some water was spilled on a coffee table and then paper fell on it. normal 8x11" printer / copy paper. the next day, we are cleaning and the paper did not release from the coffee table.

i suspect however we remove the remaining paper could preserve what is possible or cause even more damage. what is the best way to remove the paper from the table? my first thought was to dampen the area and hope the paper releases. is this the best approach or should i try something else?

    thoughts? advise?

    thanks in advance,
    keith

For anyone interested, the problem is resolved and fairly easily. I was sitting on the couch with a bottle of San Pel and figured a few bubbles couldn't hurt the cause. After letting a small pool of water soften up the paper for 1-2 minutes, I scrapped the paper off fairly quickly with my drivers license.
