    Default Gas welding Aluminum

    Hi Folks,

Cycle Design has a new product announcement. For a limited time we will be carrying a new flux for Oxy-Fuel Welding Aluminum.
I'm carrying this flux mostly for my welding classes, so most of the shipment is spoken for. If there is a demand, I will keep this flux as a regular product, but if it sits on my shelf I won't be reordering. It's up to all of you.

This flux is a powder and comes in 1/2 lb Jars, and works great. If you've always wanted to try gas welding aluminum, here is your chance. This is a new formula, and incorporates recent advances in brazing technology.
You can use regular inexpensive 1100, 4043 or 5356 TIG rod with this flux. Gas welding has been used to make aluminum bicycles. It has a brief popularity in the 30's and 40's. Gas welding aluminum is only slightly more difficult than gas welding steel.
This flux is not on the website, please email me.

This is the first of several new product introductions. We've been busy!
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions.

    Thank you,
    Wade Barocsi

    Wade,

would this require and post weld baking/normalization if used with something like Columbus's offerings?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Gas Welding would effect the strength of the tubing. Some filler rods are heat treatable and others are not. It would
probably be best to research the particular alloy and filler.
Bicycles have been made with gas welding, but this is not a common way to build an aluminum bicycle frame.
It could be done safely, but it would take considerable skill.

We carry the flux because it is used for welding sheet aluminum, which is used on HPV's, velomobiles, and accessories.
    Plus welding is fun
