Default Modern American Ruins - photos

This site is pretty amazing. Take a gander at the photos of abandoned sites, some of 'em possibly right in your backyard...

    Abandoned Places and Urban Exploration

Apart from it being very dangerous and illegal and all that, the photos are awesome, as well as the written background on the buildings themselves....

it is pretty amazing, isn't it?

there are hundreds & hundreds of photos in there. i only looked at a few locations, there's subfolders for each location.

that guy's got a hell of an eye for detail, and some serious cajones for getting into some of those places. can only imagine how precarious some of them are--rotten floors, ceilings, etc...

Cool site - in a sad way.

#3 on the list is from my hometown of Norwich, CT and my parents still reside there. Sent the URL to my dad and he commented back that the State Hospital property has been sold from the state to the town of Preston and will be renovated and utilized again. So at least some of the sites will cycle back with time and be utilized.

Thanks for the link. 3rd world in our midst, but try and pretend it's not there.

I thought sneaking into Danvers was creepy, but a lot of those photos are on a whole other level.

    Thanks!

I love this stuff. Here are a couple more links:

Detroit :: Detroit in ruins | Art and design | The Observer

Japan :: Exploring the Haikyo and Ruins of Japan | Michael John Grist

There are ruins all over the place here. They're the product of an economy that has never recovered from the bubble that burst in 1990.

    World wide :: Artificial Owl

Artificial Owl is really the best site I've found in terms of cataloging a broad array of these sites.

Edward Burtynsky [ Photographic Works ]

Someone did some stunning photos of urban decay in the Toronto/Niagara/Buffalo area but I'm having trouble finding him now. But still searching...

    Ok, found him, Kendall Anderson:

I figured the Phoenix Trotting Park would be in there, but not yet I guess. That place gives me the willies when I drive by it.
