Again, it's a bit off topic, like my ski post. But it's an outdoors type of thing and so some folks here who hike or have other curiosities in life might pay attention to this stuff.
I didn't get to see it (last night's eclipse - though I have seen them in the past) but last night was the brightest full moon, by far, I have ever seen in the United States. It was brighter in Europe when I flew there during the winters over the snow covered mountains, which reflected the light (which is itself just reflected light). Flying last night was unbelievable as I could pick out features on the surface 5 miles below even at 10PM.
I'm a closet astronomy buff and love looking at the sky from my relatively unique vantage point office. Last week I saw the meteor shower and it was ridiculous. From the surface of the planet you can't see much of that kind of stuff. Go up 5 or 6 miles and you'll see a lot.
