Mugs

A few shots from last night and this morning. Working on the marble look. Iphone photos are not as nice as my home studio shots. Similar mugs with handles coming off the top like the cone mugs should be up tomorrow or the next day.

These two are about twelve ounces.

OMFG! I love what you've done by reducing the diameter of the bottom of the mug a bit. I'm excited to see what the "inside the mug" handles will look like on this style. The "marble" look is in fact what June and I will be asking for once our kitchen is done in a couple of months. Instead of the "natural" marble color I've seen on some of the early ones, adding a bit of color is a nice touch. When we do place our order, I suspect that June will want some sort of variety in color. So cool. Thanks for the updates.

I’m glazing the pieces with the inside mug handle tonight and should have more photos tomorrow! This next batch is blue / green. Next is blue and then red. If you are interested in a specific color, let me know and I’ll look into it.

The marbling and the handles are color throughout. Somewhere, I have a broken handle and will snap a few photos. The color is mason stain worked into the clay. The end effect is very much part of the process used to make it.

When throwing, the water / clay / slip that forms on the outside covers the pattern. Before taking off the wheel, I use a metal rib to clean off the surface. Only then do I see the pattern. Its pretty cool. It will take a photographer friend, but I’ll get some action shots.

2 fingers fit easily, 3 is a little tight.
14 oz to the rim, 12 oz fill is about right.

Mixed into wet clay, the red and blue stains are rather subtle. While i performed the same techniques, they did not reveal an easy to see pattern like the green or black colorants. The blue handles look like they are applied to almost white mugs in comparison to the green / black. It should be interesting to see if they darken / reveal themselves a bit more in the firing.

Those are some nice looking pieces, well thought out for sure.

There's nothing better than a mug that works well.
