This can happen to any of us. But for me, it's almost an annual ritual as I try to eek out a few extra weeks from the previous season's shoes by replacing the cleats and getting used to a more secure interface with my new pedals. I've developed a system. And each time I have to employ it, I'm reminded of that Jake Gittes quote in Chinatown that, with interpretation, goes like this:
"...and then first I unscrew it a little bit, then stop, then I go and read a little Confucius, come back, unscrew a little bit more, then stop again, go and I unscrew a little bit. Then I go back and unscrew yet a little bit more and go out and to contemplate the moon or something like that. Makes it more exciting."
And then I get out the heavy machinery according to my opinion.

It wasn't much more than few minutes passed the turn of the century when I received an email from a fellow suggesting I look at the file attached. I barely knew what email was, though I had an address. It was the Dial-up era. The attachment contained two or three images of what would become my site's first few pages. A man I've never met and only spoken with once (he thinks it's twice) in over a decade and a half has quietly but effectively run my richardsachs dot com ever since. It's a long distance, electronic relationship that works well and is integral to my brand. For all who are familiar with me as a result of the website, it's because Steven sent me that note many years ago. We switched to a newer template in 2009 to make the information more pleasing to view and easier to navigate. I've since learned how to add texts and images. I can't add dropdowns or read code. But I continue to defer to Stevo for the heavy lifting.
