How does it feel to be supplying lugs to people like Toyo, and seeing them on frames built all over the world?
Must be pretty cool. Did you ever imagine this happening?

    thanks, gee -
i like it, it feels good, it is cool, and it helps the bottom line. it also pushes me to stay in the moment regarding materials and shapes so that my own frames evolve too. the last thing i would want is to be broad stroked because i use steel, or lugs, or make these one at a time. i think the frames are the sum total of material and experience. adding to the laundry list of ingredients that we all can tap has to raise the bar. i tried to say as much here, though the text also doubles as an infomercial atmo. the Sax Max parts should land any day now and that will be another reason to get excited to come to work each day.

    Richard,

I guess you will start building soon with your lugs for XL tubing. I have a question regarding the FD braze on, are you going to have to modify it in order to accommodate the FD spec with the larger seat tube or will it work as is ?

    Richard,

I'm curious ... what is driving the need for the XL tubing?
Will it be used by you on larger frames when YOU decide it is necessary?
Will customers have the option to request it, even if you decide it is not necessary?
Will you be working with a supplier in the same way you worked with Columbus on the Pego-Richie tubes to develop a new tubeset to match the lugs?
What do you have in mind for a fork to match such an oversized tubeset to create the beautiful balance your current frames have, both visually and functionally?
When will we see it painted red and out on the UCI Cross circuit?

    Exciting times, for sure.

    too many questions atmo -

like anything, tube diameter is style and market driven. i have designed parts for pipes in the last two generation (the 1" top tube times and the 1 1/8" top tube times...). why stop now? regarding using them as well, it's basically an aesthetic choice; if the look supersedes what we know now as "normal", at least i will be positioned to skirt both eras atmo. as far the who gets what and why want/ask for a particular size issue goes, i suspect it'll be a line-in-the-sand type of thing. yes - i am ordering PegoRichie in SAX MAX sizes and - yes, i am going to have a crown/fork parts made to complement the project.

here - last post for a while. christopher koch and michael furman set up camp in chester and left after three days of shooting and pen/paper time. the result came out about 21 years ago. we all have issues; the june 1990 issue of bicycle guide changed my life. actually, it put it on track atmo. after almost 20 years in the industry and feeling more and more like i wanted to stay in the margins, the story line cemented the deal for me. also, it was a real departure for a magazine to devote so much space to a brand without it being an overt tech piece or road test (remember those?). i remember writing to chris the afternoon that the troops left - iirc there were 5 of them there from end to end - and saying that the ordeal was humbling and the attention appreciated, and that i also looked more forward than ever to returning to a room with no other voices than my own. ps this article in its entirety has never been online until i scanned it this morning.

I remember seeing and buying that issue in my poor college days .... probably foregoing a am/pm frozen burrito or bottle of heffenrefer to do it.

Made a huge impression on me at the time. Thanks for taking me back.

    Thanks Richard.
Sorry for the barrage of questions. The thoughts just flowed quickly from brain to finger tips.
I'm looking forward to seeing some creations from the OS lugs and crown.

There's an alt group for that.

.... I finally got to say it. It was either that or "craigslist ad" ... tough choice.
