The photo of Tomac wearing the Ross Stage Race leader's jersey brings lots of memories back to me. I competed in that event and remember all the road and cross guys wondering who the hell this Tomac kid was riding a near stock Mongoose POS and absolutely kicking their butts.

The photo shows Tomac during the observed trail competition. It was cool that they included that in the mix for GC.

    Fun event.

A year later that kid Johnny T is riding a Fat chance painted to be a Mongoose for about 10 more years he rode Fats painted to be sponsor rides. ( a lot of other top riders too)This is a bit of history sorely missing in most accounts of the early days of MTB racing.

I always loved "Winning." I fondly remember being excited to get the September issue to find out what had happened at the Tour. My bedroom wall was always covered with the centerfold photos. When I left for college my mom took them all off my wall, but was nice enough to have folded them up and save them for me. I just found them last week in a box in my old room.

that is george winning the 1990 Tour of Somerville. He won 17 races in a row that spring/summer. I would know I saw them from behind. If you look at that pic back behind George to the left is a right arm of a black kid (blue and yellow jersey). His name is Don Purnell (a friend that raced for Bike Tech at the time). I am behind him, you can barely see my helmet (red/white specialized).

Those are awesome. I grew up reading Winning in high school and remember some of those photos, especially the one of Hincapie wearing that Toga jersey, from Central Park I think. I have a whole box of those thin beautiful magazines in my mom's attic.

I think it would be cool to get these old winning mags scanned in and on the net. The company is out of business so I don't think there would be any legal issues (any lawyers here?). Kind of like how the old Bridgestone catalogues are on that CT bike shop guys site. I have about 50 old winning mag from early 80's to the last issues. Between all of us here we should be able to get all the issues online.

i agreee and like you said i doubt there would be any legal issues with it.. but i think it would be wonderful especially because atleast with mine i can index them into pdf format by file and then perhaps any of you comp geeks out there can just flip the pages on your kindles and ipads haha
