Can't help thinking what's that miniature pump for?

Tire inflation would be my guess.

On a plus size Mtb tyre? It will take days!

I run a tubeless with sealant system, so the pump is great for topping off once in a while on the trail when I need a little more air. Fortunately have not needed too much full inflation action.

How about having a decent pump in the first place?
Don't get me wrong, I don't like to carry pumps that are too big, but that one is way too small. In fact, is for road bikes: narrow barrel for high pressure.
On Mtb's is the other way round: low pressure and high volume, hence the need for a wider barrel.

Lezyne and Topeak make some very small pumps with a higher volume, they're quite nice especially because they have a flexible hose, so the valve won't get pushed (and bent) as it happens with other designs.
I have the pump above, and don't use it. I prefer to carry one that is 30gr heavier and 1" longer but can actually inflate a 26"x2.2" in 2 minutes without being exhausted.

^ that is a great story Steve. My MIL just turned 91 and she said her friend told her that you start to "feel it" after you hit 92.
