No way to compete with the big names, nor would I want to - I'm happy filling in the margins - it's more interesting!

I was only half serious about that, but strong work Mr. Garro. You cost me about an hour of my life just looking at all great pics. So how did you get that whale shark in the boat? Then how did you put that 1,000 lb fillet on the grill? I have only seen one of those bad boys in the pond, they are so stunning and put out a pretty good underwater wake when they go by. That looked like one heck of a good time Mr. Garro. And good eating too.

    It was!

We saw about 20 whale sharks at a time, and would float with them for up to five hours, we got to see 5 demolishing a bait ball one day, just fascinating.

I did get tail-walloped by one about head high that surfaced below me, much to our mutual surprise.

I love my Baja trips, I only ride one day a week just to save up my fun tickets to go down, I'd move there right now if I could.

So glad to hear the words stoked in your vocabulary Mr. Steve. You were sounding pretty beat down and tired before the fish slayer trip. I love those yellow bikes, but do they come with bee spray? I used to take my Sycip school bus (or what ever that color is) yellow whip out on the trails and every bee in the woods seemed to find me. Now it is my SS paved road bomber and no more bees (much). That was a beautiful string of Roadsters you had there Mr. Garro. You do need to go ride some too, all work and no play.........

I had the same experience with my '96 Team Rock Lobster - bees & wasps!

I am stoked because regular MTB's are so much less work them DR's = vacation is a mixed bag, as although it lets me recharge & rest all that's broken on me (everything) it also reaffirms that my current life is killing me.

But no one gets out alive, right?

I have a few bikes left to make until my 6-month sabbatical - man...........that's going to be amazing.

Biking has been hard, I have a sore on my chest that re-opens every time I ride, so every ride I do I literally bleed for - I guess you have to want it bad, right?

I got hit by a car on 10/5/05 and went back to work on 12/25/05 and have been working since, and I set aside lot of rehab and life quality issues to build bikes like I told people I would.

I need to revisit those things, a decade out.

Didn't realize this is your 10 year out mark. My God time will fly, Congratulations sir. I gave up work last year about this time and have enjoyed every minute of it. Even if I worked at nothing all day. (Not to be confused with the Taking Care of Business lyric). I just worry that we won't get you back after 6 mos. out. I know what you do is freekin hard work and hard on the body, but I hope you do decide to knock out a few more bikes when you get back. Have a good holiday season Mr. Garro.

    Ha!

    Retirement - I'm 47!

It all falls under the old joke about the guy at the bar who finds himself being oggled by a hot gal - eventually, she comes over & sits next to him and whispers is his ear:

"I'll do anything for you you can name in three words"

After much contemplation he tells her:

    "Paint my house"

There's just some shit I need to catch up on, and this is what I know.

Not to say there won't be changes in the lineup!

    Great story Steve,

I can relate wholeheartedly to your story. I grew up in Holbrook from 3rd grade on where we played Tuba City in Football, Baseball (my sport) and everything else. And like you growing up in a small town in the middle of nowhere made you make your own fun with bikes, rocks and whatever you could do. Like you I was also immersed into the great melting pot that was our area. I think that living somewhere like that with a diverse population is one of my great life lessons. I went to NAU for a couple of years but ended up getting bored and working as a TV and Audio salesman in Phoenix before moving back here to Virginia where I've been for 25 years. Got back into bikes about 15 years ago and haven't looked back, now riding mostly road but a good bit of mountain as well. I still miss Northern Az, and especially Flag. I took my wife there in 2003 and she still gets teary eyed every time she sees a photo of the peaks. She says that is her spirit place. I'd love to move back there but I need to work and there isn't much demand for non-degreed software guys. Hopefully when I retire I'll have a chance to move back to the area. I'm thinking a cabin on the rim. Ride on.

    Go Roadrunners;-)

    Wow, cool!

What years were you in Holbrook?

Stop in & see the shop, I have a beautiful view of The Peaks!

What were your parents doing in Holbrook - BNSF, Teaching or Hospital?
