If you rode here back in the day, there's something in your past VSalon doesn't know about! This trail network is on the grounds of DC's former maximum security prison, in Lorton, VA. You would have had some bloodhounds after you for sure (the kennels are still standing).

Damn - I just totally SCREWED my witness protection program!

Seriously - I love how you are carving on that - people don't think about it, but trails and esp. tight burms are made to conform to the lower center of gravity of some one *not* 6'7" = it's a design consideration I take seriously on the tall fella bikes.
    Hell.......all of them........
Little bikes have their tricks as well.

    Thanks!
"Really Tall" starts at around 6'3" - 6'4"
Then there are two types - pretty regular guys that just have really long legs, then the tall and gangly - long arm, long legs, long torso.
i have built quite a few - 29ers are a true blessing for these guys MTB wise, although a dirt roaster with a 10" headtube sticks in my mind as well......
I dig building them, and it's really fulfilling to have someone tell you "this is the 1st bike I have had that actually fits"
    Sure makes your day.

Care to share any Guru opinions on the 29+ now that there's a few so equipped Coconinos in the wild?

I can't quite tell from the pics, but I think I see an 83mm shell bb?
Single chainring clearance or room for two or three rings?
Any extra bendy shinanigans for that ring/tire clearance?
Any rear axle offset for chain clearance?

Those look like "The 'Q" prebuilt wheels, but have you built up a set of wheels with the Rabbit Holes yet? An admittedly loaded question as I have some opinions on the subject and wonder what your experience thinks.

Speaking of fat-ish bikes.....Is there a "too fat" line for Coconino? Or is there already some 100mm bb shells and an Anvil 170mm dummy axle rolling around in Garro-land?

Yep - 83mm BB shell - helps to have the shell wider then the tire slightly.........go figure.......nice to have more then a few mm of clearance like the yokes for 73mm I've seen or overly crimped stays that will crack & bust - these have 6mm mud clearance minimum & will fit a double.

E*13 has a double that will work, but so far all people want is a 32T ring x 36T cluster = you only have one tire to work with, but I make them so they ride fine with down to a 2.4" tire.

I built those wheels - the rabbit hole rims fell like what they are - single walls.
Pretty soft.....not impressed......the cruiser has Kris Holm rims - MUCH nicer.

I think it's a pretty limited platform that limits your choices more then opens them.
    I'm not going any fatter.
I'm limiting my options, not expanding them.

The tires cast as much as a king headset - EACH.
    That's silly.

If you want more them one ring stick to a 2.4 x 29" tire.

    YRMV but that's my stance.

    No offset, none of that.

Mostly just a couple bikes that friends wanted, after trying it out I see more limitations then benefit but if they have fun then all is good.
I'm not going out to be the next fat (fad) bike guy - they are kind of turning into the new fixies what with trekalized & even Walmart selling them.

I'm pretty solidly set in the XCish end of the spectrum, but I'm open to new ideas.

personally i'd rather have a 100mm travel fork with damping then a beach ball.

But.......if you are going to tour crappy playas & arroyos like those cats, then maybe a good thing.

just bring four tires just in case (that's $520.00 in 29er+ tires, BTW)

    Clear as mud.

    Back to a fully rigid 650B & then a 26" fully rigid & V-brakes next.......

Wow, good stuff! You should be careful Mr. Garro, you're setting the bar pretty high with the honest no BS replies on the internets.

Only because you have corroborated my lukewarm impression of the RHs I'll further share my wide 29er rim opinion

The Velocity P35 (or Blunt35 as it's now known in QBP land) is lighter(~100g)/cheaper(by nearly 1/2) / arguably stronger(double wall), all with a very similar tread profile with a Knard mounted. And will run a "skinny" 29er tire without drama. Also out there is a WTB LaserDisc at 37mm that I've no experience with. So unless the intention is explicitly low psi riding, the wider rims aren't bringing anything to the party. And IMO if you're dropping the psi that low it's time for a full up fat bike....Which is unfortunately the in thing right now.

This is a "Don't hate the player, hate the game" moment for fat bikes. At least I can again go ride my 26in rigid fixed gear MTB without being asked about 29ers or girl jeans.

Telling the truth is a luxury a builder with a queue can afford.

I agree on the whole rim thing - you just don't get that much out of the RH rim - the Holm is a great, bomber rim - I will check out the WTB one, didn't know they had a 37mm - thanks!

29+ is fine as long as you don't try to add "flickable" or "Short chain stay" to the sentence.
For riding washes, beaches or really crappy roads I can embrace it, but the lack or availability for tires anywhere and the prohibitive cost are drawbacks........but, you can make a bike that runs 2.4" to 3.0" fine, but if you go with a 2.4" max you can make it much more of a shred-able trail bike, not that you can't do that with a 3.0" - FYI those tires don't carry speed very well - they are still very, very heavy.

Again, YRMV and clear as mud.
Not for everyone, but awesome for some.

Is the fork suspension corrected and do you make those?

    Thank you!
