    D,

Those ideas are ideas are kicking around in the way back corner of my head, but the the only real plans I have is to obsessively build the best frames I can.

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Sounds like you devote one calendar month to each frame, is that an accurate interpretation? Bob's bike gets build in June, then Sally's bike is built in July? This interests me because I'm wrestling with time management and too many projects right now.

Yes, exactly. It leaves me some time to throw in a frame for myself, a teamamate or get ahead if I need to. I can build more than one a month if pressed pretty easily so I think this will work 12-18 mos out. It's also designed to give an end date to the whole process. Meeting exectations wrt to delivery is the number one complaint I hear about ordering a bespoke anything.

Thanks for asking, do you have any ideas to add? I'd like to hear from others.

I was thinking about something like that myself, it's good to hear that someone else does it and it works. Getting stuff done in a timely manner can be an issue for me.

I had Dave Kirk build me a cross frame 3 yers ago or so. I was impressed he delivered the frame within a week or so of his original estimate which impressed me considering he had no real control of the paint process. I think having a reputation for being timely would be golden.

I'll do any color combo as long as it looks nice or tips the hat to tradition. I'd like to do some of those color combo's.

Yeah, I definitely want to get everything worked out before I go legit.

    Hey Ron,

You tracked down my blog, thanks. When I started the project I looked around for what I thought was the right shape and at some point in the process I decided I was going to be responsible for the shape rather than some 1's and 0's plugged into a lazer cutting machine. The Campy's give a lot of space to leave something behind that will show through the paint. Lastly, I was in a jones to do more and not less.

Ron, it's more than the object and the real reasons aren't related to the Campganolo Brev stamped into the steel. Until the dropout is taken by rust or forge it will always have the marks that I was there. It's corny as hell to say and even more to type, but some things must be done, and sometimes the longer route is preferred. When I finsish this frame for you it will be the best I can do.

    "the best i can do.."
that's what makes a j greene, r sachs, j p weigle, witcomb, zanconato or gaulzetti so special to me..
ya build em and let em go, just like a akc reg breeder, no attached emotions --- lego, buddy and lucky-dog .... then the permanent canine home becomes the luver & care giver..

glad to have met my friends, and enjoy the fruits of their labor...

cool, that makes me feel good. After the race weekend tell me how it rides between minutes 50 and 60 when your eyeballs are resting on the top tube. That's how I want to impress.

When I was learning to paint 5-7 years ago I did a handful of University colors inspired frames repaints. These were lower qulaity frames that pals wanted painted to show their pride on gameday. Most university's pick strong colors and they make fun matches. I'd consider doing FSU Garnet and gold, but the tomahawk decals will never happen. Here's a Arkansas Razorback painted San Rensho built Specialized Allez I did for a pal. It's corny but fun at the same time and I don't think I'll be doing any more of these.
