Default Gasflux Type T silver flux

I had been meaning to give it a try. I'm a long time user of Gasflux Type U silver flux and am perfectly happy with it. But the type T is supposed to be a little different with a reduction of fluorides. Fluorides are nasty for the human body so reducing ones exposure isn't a bad idea.

I got a sample of type T and did some test brazing. All's fine. Just brazed a front triangle with it and everything flowed beautifully. The type T behaves slightly differently than type U during the preheat phase. One needs to preheat a little more gently than type U to get the flux to stick on. Not radically different but not identical. Beyond that everything else was the same. Except the smell or lack there of. Very little of that nasty smell that comes of type U. One learns to keep ones nose out of that but it's absence isn't missed. BTW I don't use a gasfluxer (hate 'em) so I have no doubt that the preheat would be less of a change because the gasfluxer is constantly bathing the joint in flux. If you're looking to spice up your brazing life, give the type T a try. It won't change your life but ruin it either. Don't fear the T.

Gasflux silly goose. They are super nice people and only have a 10# minimum. And the prices are really good.

i've also been using type t for about 10 months without a problem. works a treat, and in a pinch type t is much better than type u for stainless brazing. though if your staying in the gasflux canon, you should really be using type g for that . . .

I think what Tweedy is talking about is there have been some changes to shipping regulations. Flux via ground service is now subject to a hazardous material fee. Talk to the kind folks at Gasflux about this. If I remember correctly, if you buy a case of 12 one pound jars there's no fee and it's then cheaper than a 10# bucket which incurs the fee. Stranger than fiction.

I bought a 10# bucket and had to drive to the FedEx Ground terminal to pick it up. Not necessary with the jars.

That must be what happened. I bought a 10# type B and a 10# type U and shipping was as much as the flux. They also sent it signature required; no one was here so back it went to FedEx and they would not divert it to another location. I left the FedEx guy a note asking him to leave it and he did.
When I called GasFlux to place the order and explained who I was the person I spoke with referred me to HJ, calling them their bicycle industry distributor. I explained that I wanted type B4 and that HJ did not stock it. The GasFlux person hemmed and hawed a bit and then reluctantly took the order. They sent type B rather than B4.
Next time, twelve 1 lb jars it is.
