I agree again. My 40mm Explorer II is so much better than the newer bigger models. If I were going to get a black face Rolex to add to my collection, I would have a difficult time deciding between the new Air King and the new Explorer.

I should add that a couple of my watches are of the larger size, one is a 44mm dive watch, and the size doesn't bother me one bit. Even on my dainty wrists. But the large size makes them very casual, whereas the 39mm Explorer I is subtle enough to work for pretty much any occasion outside of those requiring formalwear.

Speedmaster doesn't get much time since this one came to be. Feels just right.

I have that exact same watch and yeah, it just feels right. I've had it for about 6 months now and I rarely wear anything else.

An Explorer is what I originally set out for. I don't like the larger size of the updated model. This purchase had to be a new watch because it marks an occasion and I'm very glad I didn't buy used.

Ditto. I wanted to be the first owner and didn't want a watch larger than 36mm. This was also a big decade birthday gift to myself.

Now that I have this, I am tempted to take the plunge on this beautiful NOS 14270 Explorer I....

Some Great looking Omega's and Rolex Daytona's

Seiko has discontinued the 007 and its US market sister the 173 in favor of some updated automatics. The lack of a hand wind was an annoyance to some on the watch. I love my 173, personally.

Do it!! It's a real world-beater of a watch. I've had several of them from bone stock to highly modified. Currently sporting a very subtle mod with a sapphire crystal, Murphy bezel (Best mod ever, I have a small stash of them tucked away) and a 6105 type second hand.


Edit: Mine is the supposedly more collectable J-model and I only paid $175 for mine new. I've found most of the folks on watchuseek to be a good lot.

I was sorely tempted, but the price was just too high. If it had been closer to a regular Marine Master 300, I would've bought it in a heartbeat, but the $1500 premium is too much. It's a shame too because I love the size. It's not too easy to find divers under 40mm these days. I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled a second hand deal in the future.

I'll admit that I am not knowledgeable at all about Sieko watches so I am confused; please help me understand.

There is the 007 automatic model that many people love, is no longer available in the USA, but can be found new on Amazon for about $200. Why not get one? Does it come with a metal or rubber band? I could only find rubber bands. Is there a newer/updated version that people find as interesting and worthwhile to own?

What about the other "reissue" watches a few people have mentioned? They seem to be limited production and cost between $1000 and $1500.

I fully admit that I know nothing of Sieko and always thought of them as similar to the cheap Casio digital watches form the 80s and/or the cheap Timex watches. What am I missing here?

Seiko is one of the few companies still doing everything in house, and across the entire spectrum from exceedingly inexpensive watches to Grand Seiko stuff. And,to my eye, they deliver a heckuva lot of watch for the money. They had the 007/173 out for a long while, and replaced them in production with the SRP 775/777/77X models, which harken back to their 630X series dive watches of the 1970s. Slightly larger and the ability to hand wind were the biggest additions. But 007/173 models are still out there for sale through various channels, a lot of the 007 you see on Amazon are through some of those grey market retailers, and to be honest, who knows how long Seiko will be pushing the remaining stock of those out the door?

The new SRPs are essentially their entry level diver now, and get rave reviews from what I've seen, but I have a hard time parting with my 173 given how rock solid its been. Hand winding would be a nice feature though. Below is a recap of the full transition and new models.

Get one on a rubber strap and buy an aftermarket bracelet imho.
