Hung - thanks for that link.

Matt - Tudor, yes we discussed the 36 BlackBay upthread. It's too much for this purpose but probably ends up in my collection eventually. Very much like the big version and 36 will be perfect. The low cost pilot watch / NATO idea is for when I don't want 3-4K on my wrist. First world problems eh?

I picked this up on Saturday. I've been looking for, what to my eyes anyway, is a classy watch with just a little bit of 'sportiness.' I also wanted to buy it locally, so this is how things shook out. Also, I'm a psychologist - I couldn't spend $$$$$$$.

FWIW, I like that Tag has given money to cycling (with their recent sponsorship of BMC). I'm not a pro cycling fan-boy, but I believe that a company that pushes $ to cycling sponsorship is worth supporting.

Looking at Hamilton Khaki. Easily obtainable, seems decent quality. Any reason not to do this vs something else?

    . . .

Or other "cool" suggestions. $300-500 buck range where I can walk in, purchase, walk out.
I have a Hamilton Field Khaki Auto - I think I bought it in 2011 or so. I don't have a picture, but it's this one: Amazon.com: Hamilton Men's HML-H7455533 Khaki Field Black Dial Watch: Hamilton: Watches.

In any case, the watch has been solid. I've had to replace the leather band once, but have otherwise just worn it. It has mild cosmetic scratches on the case (as would be expected, I think), but otherwise continues to look good. No complaints.

I have been looking for something nice to replace my Seiko. The Tudor Black Bay divers look excellent, as does the Rolex Milgauss ($$!). An older Tag Heuer 1000 or Carrera might fit the bill if the price and condition is right. Whatever I get will be the first "nice" watch I have owned. This thread has given me much to consider.

I'm wearing my Black Bay now and must say it's really one of my favorite watches I've ever owned. You could do much worse.

+1. Looove my Black Bay (79220N). I'm wearing my Seiko SCED035 today but mostly because I'm juiced for "Alien: Covenant".

The new Black Bays look so nice; the 70 hour power reserve added with the move to the in-house movement is insane!

It's a lot of watch for the money. Mine is one of the first iterations with the ETA movement and I have zero complains. That said, I'm hoping to get a black one at some point with the new in house movement, which seems great.

This just arrived. Bargain find on the internet from a German dealer. Its the Quartz version - I couldn't justify doubling the cost for the automatic. I love its simplicity and slightly 'under the radar' branding. Quite large 42mm bezel, but I'm used to wearing a Garmin Fenix which is mahooosive so...

Ohhh, that's a nice Alpina. I've wanted one of their watches for a good amount of time now. Understated, yet distinctive.

Well, the Tag I posted above had a warranty issue (note that the GMT hand is lagging behind the hour marker while the hour/minute hands are ~11 minutes past). Anyway, I brought the watch back to the AD and subsequently received pretty terrible customer service (no contact for a month, and then they stonewalled me after I tried initiating contact). I ended up going to the AD and requesting a refund. Refund granted. This was a little more than a week ago.

So, I had my money burning a hole in my pocket. With some input from my CFO, I decided that the best way to manage my watch lust was to just buy the watch that I REALLY wanted in the first place. So, that's what we did.

    I really like that Alpina.

I am looking for something under $300 that would serve as a decent entry into the watch world.

I have my Withings Steel HR that is a nice understated watch I can wear casually regardless of the situation, but i do want something with a bit more panache also.

Wondering if anyone has experience with Tsovet watches?

I really like the Milanese band and styling on this one and a few others, but don't know a ton about them.

It's Baselworld 2017 folks. That means all the new timekeeping goodies are rolling out. Here are a couple of my favorites so far.

Tudor Black Bay Chrono on leather or bracelet.

Patek 6006 (a larger version of the long standing 6000).

Gorgeous, indeed. Also, I set it more than 3 days ago, and it is currently running approximately -1 second total over that time. Consider me impressed.

I've banned myself from further viewing of Tudors in person. It's like bikes or guitars: You look and look again, say no, then look again, and then all of a sudden BOOM out of nowhere there is a new one sitting next to the other ones and your wife is out buying jewelry or shoes to make things balance.
