Matt--which Black Bay do you have, blue or red? My brother in law got the red one 2 years ago. Great piece.

Any other recommendations for a simple field or pilot watch? 42mm or less. I have a PAM112 and I can't go more than 42 for this.
Mine is red bezel. I mostly wear it on the black nylon strap, though it's on the leather band now. It's a great watch. Great size and weight so it wears very comfortably.

Build your own watch and other goodies...I spotted this brand in the NYT on Sunday. Certainly not for the high end folks but the (shallow) diver watches by 40nine might make for a good beater watch for me.

That's pretty slick. Fortunately, I've hit my 4 watch limit. Hmmm, time to give away something.

I believe the limit is 7 watches. One per day of the week.

Do cheapies/beaters count toward the 7 watch limit? Maybe 7 "nice" watches?

Only until something catches your eye. Like with bikes, "limit" is open to interpretation.

I'm hoping to see it in the flesh soon. There's a decent chance that I'll end up selling my red one if I like it as much as I think I will.

Would be cool to have both, but I know that every man has his limits on stuff . . .

I can barely swim. I think 3 dive watches would be too many. 2 is fine, though, so I'm in the clear for now.

I am surprised no one mentioned Mido. I love it's spartan looks and function. It's my favourite swiss watch.

This is pretty close to 5 bills and there are variations that bring it a bit under: Hamilton Khaki Field Black Dial Black Leather Men's Watch H70505733 - Khaki Field - Hamilton - Shop Watches by Brand - Jomashop

That Hamilton is nice. So many nice Seikos under $500 if you want a diver style. Amazon has a ton of them.
