Default NYE 2016 - Menu and Drink Planning

I've got a theme, it's going to be desserts. We did this ten (?) years ago and it was a hit. For drinks I'm making very traditional Old Fashioned's with good Rye

Main course? Toying with something really simple that goes with savory sides like black bean and steak chili, corn bread blah blah blah. Maybe bake a veg. lasagne for variety. Boring but with the focus on dessert and booze why go too far afield?

If you want a veggie lasagna, there is a vegan version that really is great, from the "The American Vegetarian Cookbook" by Marilyn Diamond. It's rich enough to be worth eating, but not the gut bomb that normal lasagna is.

I'm really excited for NYE this year. Having a get together with my favorite peeps from back home, my buddy is hosting at his place. He and I and our buddy Brian have been best friends since 5th grade, I'm still not sure how that happened exactly, all three of us are totally different in so many ways. He's got two little girls now, oldest turned 4 yesterday, they're a ton of fun. All of our parents are coming too, we realized recently it's been way to long since we got the whole crowd together. Should be a fun night.

He's got a BGE type grill of some sort and is going to do either pork chops or pulled pork on it. I'm going to bring a brisket...it'll be my first attempt at one, wish me luck! Everyone else is bringing either sides or dessert.

We will have just seen off the last of visiting family on the 29th after two plus weeks, and with small kids will probably just stay home. I've been slowly stocking up on random nice beers and am planning to dry out for Jan/Feb, so I'm sure I'll have a few that night.

Dustin, why don't you make the pork at home and bring it to the party?

Matt, you and Mrs. are always welcome here. Our annual NYE party is on schedule. Come early, have a great Old Fashioned than head home before the amateurs take over the roads.

I'm going to make the brisket at home and bring it to the party, which is only a ~2hr drive. Cameron is doing the pork at his place.
