    Default Quick Emery cloth question

Any favorite brands? I'm using this cheapo stuff.... works ok but I make piles of the stuff on small cleanups. Is that just how sanding steel tends to be, or should I pony up more?

I'm not a framebuilder but I work with my hands. My fav. brand is 3m and everything else I've tried does not hold up resulting in much waste. That's a item that I can't do with out, so useful for many things.
Hang tight one of the effbuilders will answer.

Cheap stuff for cleaning tubes and 3M for detail work, lug polishing, lug shorelines, etc.

I am an abrasive snob....for hand work 3M 314d is the stuff. I don't love all of 3M's products but this has been the best roll I have used over the years. Too much effort to keep cheap stuff vs expensive stuff. 3M has a more expensive brand than 314D but I found it to not have as much longevity. Shite paper is a false economy. It costs you more over the long haul

For anything abrasive, I turn to SAIT.

I have found that almost all abrasive manufactures make something wonderful while making something else that stinks. You cannot buy just one brand and hope to have all your bases covered. I use a least a dozen brands for building and painting. Heck, I have these off brand flap wheels and they are the best I have ever used so you never know.

That is true, but for what I use, SAIT has never let me down, but I haven't tried much of the 3M stuff.

I've been using Kiligspor lately with good results.

I recently bought some 314D, and I found that I sometimes prefer the 301D, which has a thinner, more flexible cloth. They also behaves quite differently: the 301D seems to loose more emery grains, where the 314d seems to "flatten" them quickly (hope it's clear !).
