Dublin recommendations
4-day weekend in Dublin upcoming.
Going to Ireland-Scotland rugby on Saturday, otherwise no real plans.
Anyone have any must-do/drink/eat/see's? Will be the the wife and both of ours' parents, hers tend towards the foodie/wine aficionado. Any bike shops worth a stop?
(I've been once, and saw the Book of Kells, Newgrange, and the inside of a lot of pubs that pour a nice Guinness.)
Thx,
Matt

Drink with both hands? Just a thought. Nothing to add however a selfish request for more of your glorious pictures.

Re: Dublin recommendations
Food is not Dublin's strong suit. That being said, the Shelbourne Hotel on St. Stephen's Square had a ridiculously comfortable bed.

Stayed here on our honeymoon. It's actually a Marriott property, and agreed, comfy beds. The bus tour of the city is handy, on and off as you like, and goes to the Guiness brewery. We visited Edinburgh this past fall and enjoyed the night tours of the city. Wonder if Dublin has any tours of a "dark" past.

Re: Dublin recommendations
The best thing about Dublin is going to Belfast... if you make the trip I'll have some good options for you.

Re: Dublin recommendations
Read "Ulysses" before you go and take a Joycean tour when you get there. Rent a car, take half a day, drive up to the giant's causeway/Dunluce castle, spend the night at the Bushmill's Inn, hit the distillery for the divine 12-year-old single malt (available only at the distillery and the Inn), drive back and drink your face off in the Temple Barf - that last extremely optional.
I am not who I am.

Don't eat the local bagels.

Agree 100%. Dublin was fine, just that, fine. Definitely some interesting things to see and do, among them is the Guinness factory. But for me, getting outside of the city and going North to the aforementioned Giants Causeway was nothing short of spectacular.

Dude. I don't eat bagels north of Wayne or south of Toms River.
Thanks for the suggestions all.
I think we're planning on just doing a ton of walking, eat what looks good, and wash it all down with stout.
My folks have some friends in County Meath so maybe go out that way and walk one afternoon.

Re: Dublin recommendations
I lived in Dublin a for a while. The guiness factory is pretty lame, if you want a tour, do the Jameson distillery. Temple Bar is pretty similar to a lot of bar crawl scenes, nothing you can't experience in any city in the world. The food has gotten many times better than it was previously known for. Try The Winding Stair and Chapter One . The brazen head is a somewhat touristy bar, but a neat experience if you are visiting. Have fun.

Have you been to Sunrise Bagels in Wayne? Stuff is nuts.
I've got a spot for you in Flemington if you're ever headed down 202. Expand the reach out west a little.

I'm going next month too for four days. I write a lot on art so I've got plenty to do, and my hotel is across the street from the National Gallery. I'm pretty excited.

There is an old historic site called "Glendalough" (glen-da-loch) that I found to be amazing. Breathtaking scenery...then again the weather was sunny and warm the day I was there...

Re: Dublin recommendations
We had a great trip, fully unstructured.
Highly recommend Dax restaurant, an up and coming French place run by a former rugby player from SW France.
Underwhelmed by the restaurant in the Westbury hotel.
Great lunch at Patrick Guilbaud before seeing the Irish trounce the Scots in rugby.
My father in law picked up dozens of recommendations for places near their new digs in the Lot (France) by chatting with all the waiters and cooks.
My dad and I just sagely nodded, "Oui" and drank Guinness.
The Mint Bar in the basement of the Westin is cool.
Avoided the Shelbourne since the Irish squad was staying there and it was a madhouse. We saw them getting on the bus one morning. Big dudes, but not as big as Scotland's Lock- 6'9" 277lb, with a mop of blond hair. Beast.
And here's a photo of a dog thinking the better of taking on 2 swans in St Stephen's Green:
