as a newbie i thought i might start by adding a few useful links i found:

Thanks for the links. I added them to my favorites under Frame-Design. Although i will say i have played with Tubemiter printouts before and i really don't find them needed. I use a hack saw then a bench grinder for my roughing out, guided either by eye or a scribed line from the lug. Still it's nice to have more tools in the box, again thanks. Andy.

Does anyone know of a good coping method for oval or aero tubes? That is other than using a mill/DP with a good bit of tooling to keep it all straight.

    Thanks

Your not gonna love this...but yes, if you draw the shape in solidworks or a like program you can use the sheetmetal function to lay out the mitered pattern flat, then wrap around tube.

when I saw you had replied to this thread, I expected a different kind of post. That is really helpful, going to try it on something I've been having trouble with.

In 2015 sw you don't need to use sheetmetL anymore you can unwrap a surface, this is actually borrowed from aerspace surface option in catia v6....its awesomely powerful pick a surface and vector and flatten it even compound curvature as in a bent tube its handy for doing ply layup for composites too
