    That is really sad.

Does anyone have a picture of him riding a Pegoretti? Cause that would make me feel better.

Sad as hell. I was young enough the first time I saw Mrs. Doubtfire to not really get it. As I watched him more and more, I loved how he was willing to put his deep sadness out there for everyone to see. Not many actors are willing to go the places that he went.

I battled the first and won, I'll let you know about the second it doesn't get cured just subdued for a while. What a shame, what a loss, his light will be missed.

He was on my "five people I'd love to have lunch with" list. Not because he was so entertaining, but that there was a depth that he only hinted at on stage/camera. He did the bike leg of several CAF triathlon relays. He traveled to the TdF many times. And always he was trying to put the attention on the CAF athletes, or the TdF riders, and away from himself.

Such a funny guy, and so sad it came to this.

His bits on golf and the one on the olympics are some of my favorite comedy bits of all time.

This is a really good time to remember those living with depression. It's a terrible disease.

Just watched The Birdcage a few weeks ago with some family who had never seen it. That is another great performance.

On a side note, can a mod please correct the thread title?

I'm a public health nurse. A colleague of mine used to work at an inpatient drug and alcohol rehab facility where Robin Williams had on more than one occasion checked himself in. According to my co-worker, Robin was really great--warm, inclusive, didn't hold himself above any of the other folks in treatment with him. But he was also difficult to work with at times--he tended to dominate the group sessions, hijacking the time with free-association monologues that had the groups rolling with laughter, but also not exactly acheiving their therapeutic potential without some serious redirection.

I'm trying to say all of this in a way that's not too gossipy or disparaging, because that's not how I mean it and not how I see it. What I'm saying is that I'm moved by the humanity of it; this was a man who projected a sadness and empathy that was really special. And I guess I'm struck by the notion that at times our greatest talents are also our greatest weaknesses. It's worth recognizing and honoring that.

Yes, a shame and a waste of talent and life...

But he chose the path he took, both professionally and personally.

I feel badly for his 3 kids and 3 wives he abandoned. I hope his policy covers them.

Celebs are tripping over themselves to come out with a clever tweet on this. Pathetic that this is how his “friends” pay tribute: 140 characters or less…

RIP Robin. Happy trails up above.

Dunno how you cats feel about this but I need to get it out. Revisiting a life lived is a honorable thing to do. In my world we do that when people pass on. Mr. Williams took his own life and that creates questions, remorse and even anger. Perhaps this is a opportunity to reflect quietly.

So for now, I can't look at pictures or videos. It's my way. There is no right and wrong.

I have nothing to add in regards to Robin Williams, other than it saddens me. I have dealt with very close family that battle depression, schizophrenia, bi-polar and other mental illnesses. I have a giant spot for those that suffer. As some have read, I am in Chicago for the week. A very long way from the small town I live in. Wandering thru the streets today I notice a lot of this. Fucking truly sad.

My wife watches me stand, look and have a conversation. Or at least try. I am not educated and smart about these illnesses, but my heart gets mangled. I have watched my mom, and good friends fight this.

A lot of this is guilt. I was straightedge, militant and so very stupid. I always thought if you were sad, get the fuck over it. Harden up, your life is easy compared to most people in the world. Got a drug problem? Just quit. Sad? Get happy.

Don't know what I am saying. But, I am sorry for not feeling for those people that I was unfeeling towards..
    So sorry

Some of the public responses to this say a lot about our society and culture. The human mind is a vast frontier that stretches way beyond our academic understanding, and it's obvious a lot of people don't get that. To me that is as sad as Robin's death. Your experience in this world is deeply irrelevant to everyone else's experience; life is complex and everyone is unique and alone.
