I am starting to find the word problematic, problematic.

Office workers need to stop calling each other rock stars when they do their job successfully. It's just embarrassing.

The big thing around my work right now is the differentiation between superstars, rock stars, and...well, I don't know what to call everyone else. Backup singers, maybe? I think it's problematic* on multiple levels, not the least of which is the forced formalization of colloquial language in a way that decreases mutual understanding. It's amazing how much less efficient the corporate world is thanks to all the effort required to decipher buzzword lingo.

One thing I have to be careful about now that most of my team are people that were born in India 25 or 30 years ago is not to use idioms that are understood by people that were born in the US 40 or 50 years ago. My boss does it all the time and we spend extra time so he can repeat himself to get his point across in a more clearly understood way.

I think that, in a way, this one is even worse than the standard buzzword category because it has something to do with the trend for handing out trophies for doing one's job or merely turning up.

Sounds familiar. It's not an easy thing to deal with, on both sides. The good thing is that you guys are aware of the problem, which is not something that can be said about many others.

How an "Organization Announcement" I just received starts...

"As we continue to execute against our strategic pillars..."

Sounds like layoffs to me, only worse. Blindfolds and cigarettes much?

Eww, the dreaded « right-size » as we « future-proof » the organization and that whole plethora of mealy mouth to make it all sound wonderful when it actually sucks.

Oh, it was a festival of "strategic enabler". "at scale... scaling... scaled framework", "I am very excited about the increased impact..", "Unlock new synergies...". "mature this new critical function...", "...enable greater growth, maturity, and success in our journey to deliver business value in 2021 and beyond."

That comma after maturity is in the announcement just like that.

My wife works upstairs in her command center. I hear all sorts of things. If she was landing planes or guiding ships up there, it wouldn't make any more sense to me.

Oy, as in "from a 30,000 foot view" "I wish he would just land the plane" but those are often said while "we are carpet bombing them with strategic ideas and solutions"?

Not saying she says those things, just saying it is what your post made me think of.

Her language reflects who she is speaking with. When she's hearing a case that has to do with finance/investments/mergers, the phrases used are astonishing, especially when you get to discussing damages and a bunch of finance guys have to answer the question "But what is that worth?" I only hear her side of the dialogue though - thank god. Mostly I just go outside. Win win.

A day without these is like a day without sunshine.

    "...cultivate all the intangibles..."

    "Upskilling employees..."

Its so nice of the company to give me a little smile from time to time.

"Welcome in" as a greeting when entering a retail establishment.
