    Default Dress Socks?

What's the collective wisdom on dress socks? Nothing flashy, just comfort/quality/durability to go with standard jerkoff in a suit (that's my new official job title) business wear. My current sock game is Costco/Kirkland which is incongruous with the rest of the shtick.

Cycling socks, comfortable, breathable and colorful - suits are boring and they should be (blue and grey only) - make your statement of individuality with your socks. Stay away from making a statement with a tie. Keep it simple up top and colorful down below.

I'm watching too. I have a ton of different dress socks and dont really like any of them. Almost all of them are quitters - the only ones that seem to stay up are the over the calf variety, but those are not super comfortable. The socks I like most are defeet merinos. I have a few of the 6 or 8" cuff thin wool cycling socks and a pair of the wool peleton "dress socks". The peleton socks are too thick for my dress shoes, but are great in shoes that have a bit of room in them.

Darn Tough. The "Crew Light" versions are about as thick as a standard dress sock and work in all my dress shoes. https://darntough.com/collections/me...nt=30181009351

Another vote for Darn Tough. Those are my every-day dress for work socks with a suit or without. They are comfy and wear for freaking-ever. They've started to be a little more adventurous with colors/patterns if you need to make a statement. I have some that are worn at least weekly that must be 3+ years old.

That said, they are a little on the casual side for full-boat tuxedo hosiery.

Also, the best cycling sock. Ever.

I'll bite. I have a number of pairs of Thomas Pink and Duchamp socks. Very dressy, and choices from mild to wild are available. I usually buy them in London, but they are available online. My patients often comment on them, and I reply that socks are my little bit of rebellion in a regimented world.

I have both DarnToughs and Pinks. I'd go with the DarnToughs. You can be interesting but sedate, or push the envelope just a little. The big thing is that they are immensely durable. I walk a lot and seem to wear thin spots in Smartwool or Teko or similar brands. They stay up well.

In modern office style it's appropriate to have some interest in your socks. Black or grey is so old school. I get lots of positive feedback on the DarnToughs.

Have you tried over the calf socks? I ask because some people get swelling from them. Try one pair before you buy more. They solve the problem of bare calf showing if your pants are a bit short or if you simply hike them up when you cross your legs. Everyone makes them. You can also wear a thin compression sock under them and get some recuperation from that heavy ride the day before.

I am beginning the process of redoing my sock drawer in Darn Tough. Should take me about 15 years. I have a lot of socks. But Darn Tough socks are the best.

My wife isn't helping though. Last time she went to Italy she bought me some Gammarelli "Pope" socks, although it doesn't seem like this Pope is much into flashy socks so they are having to sell them to sinners like me (via my wife.) I am kind of afraid to wear them. Some kind of religious juju woven into them or something.

    Lou,

I can't believe you care about dress socks at this point in your career.

It's better to look good than to feel good.
(aka you should always care about how you dress even down to your socks)

Darn Tough needs to make some red ones. As a Lutheran Minnesotan, I just have one pair as an homage to Professor Sibley and Garrison Keillor. If Darn Tough started making them I might go all in.

Mark - we'll catch up if the roads and trails ever dry up. In the medical House of Cards stratosphere since the New Year. Not a whole lot of fun, but at least I see a bed every night.

We have a winner. Black and navy for my gig, can't rock the papal red (plus don't want to to risk the lightning bolts.)

Yes we will!! Long rides on tap for Sundays through June. The Engin is good to go for gravel.

Weird winter. I missed the nice days in February recovering from a little procedure (tnx for the recommendation) and then snow and cold in March. Going to be an ugly start to TT season at Sandy Hook in a couple weeks since I'm three months behind in training. On purpose though - going for the July/August peak this year. But still, getting smacked around in April and May will hurt.

Will miss you guys next week. Heading down to Hammonton for Jason's road race. Enjoy HoH.

I'm wearing my Darn Tough socks right now. They are my current favorites. I also have a ton of pairs of Smartwool socks, but they seem to wear out more quickly.

FWIW - I'm a shirt and tie with dress slacks kind of guy at work. No suit required for my job (thank goodness!).

    How about red shoes?

For some reason, I love this line:

I said "I'm so happy, I could die."
She said "Drop dead," then left with another guy.

Nordstrom merino wool over-the-calf socks are my personal must-have uniform piece. I only hang dry them and I think some of my oldest ones are, literally, nearly a decade old. And they're not nasty. They just last forever if you don't use a dryer.

Take a walk through a Nordstrom men's shoe dept. and look for their socks. Big fan here. They're not super cheap but they last forever with proper care. Exceptional value.
