Default Quarterly Coffee Exchange No.2: Oct 2017

Let's shoot for a ship date of Monday 10/2. Roast on the weekend, ship on Monday.

    Here's how it works:

    If you're an active roaster:
Roast 1/2 lbs of whatever you've been enjoying recently.
Roast 1/2 lbs of the exchange bean.*
Pick a buddy and PM shipping info. Send along info re: varietal, roast date, origin, and roast level.
Post pics and some info on the roasting process before you ship. After you receive your beans, post some pics of the brewing process, describe the cup, etc... Let's get some discussion going.

If you're not an active roaster, but you want in on the fun, the cogs in my little skull are slowly turning. I think we can get some more folks in on the action. Stay tuned.

    * From what I can tell, most of us are familiar with SweetMarias. Lets pick a bean we can order through them. It looks like their stock changes a bit over time, so let's wait until a bit closer to the date before we make that decision.

    Active Roasters:
    defspace
    TooTall
    Jimmybagadonuts
    gkk
    Shoogs

Jimmybagdoughnuts has better experience than me so I'm waiting to hear what he says.

For the record I exchanged with Jimmy last time and I picked first soooo I should go last.

Yikes. October happened quickly. I definitely dropped the ball on this one.

Who's in for this round of exchanges?

    I'm in.

Here's Maria's latest e-flyer: Those Colombias you have been waiting for. Costa Rica, Brazil DP + Ethiopia Sidama Nansebo. Oh, & we are hiring.

...that Ethiopia Sidama sounds pretty versatile from the description.

The Ethiopian sounds good to me. I'm about due for an order.

TooTall - you're my buddy this time around. It's high time I got a taste of the Old Shoe Roast

Right on. Need your physical address added to the shared google spreadsheet. Email me if you need that link.

I'm addicted to the new Bonilla Costa Rica beans. They make excellent espresso or pour over. Do you have a preference for darker vs lighter?

    Sounds good to me @Jimmy!

Any of those sound just fine, I've never tried a Panama so maybe some of that? I pull espresso shots and the occasional Aeropress cup. Whatever roast you prefer for espresso I'll be happy to try.

I'll PM ya for the list.

My usual roast range is in the FC+ ballpark, but you roast what you've enjoying. You know the bean better than I do. I've got pour over and espresso setups now, so I've got my bases covered.

Just to tease you. We are drinking the roast I intend to replicate for you. I held back from FC+ and let the profile develop slower twords the end and resulted in a really nice classic Costa Rica high grown taste....at least to my uneducated knuckle dragging vernacular is how I'd describe it ;)

Makes crazy good espresso crema which brings me to phase to of my coffee roasting education. I'd like to blend these beans with something spicy and see what happens.

Brother, your Old Shoe is done and out the door. I'm happy with the batch. It came out exactly like I'd hoped but I REALLY want your honest feedback.

    Who is doing what?

Are we trying to do a common bean this time?

That was the plan? I might have jumped the gun. I'm up for anything.

That was the plan in Post #1 on this thread but a long time has passed since then, LOL. I’m also easy. Jimmybagadonuts what do you want to do? Go with what we already have or also include a shared bean?

Honest feedback - you got it. I just finished up roasting a pound of Brazilian Yellow Bourbon. GKK sent me some Brazilian Yellow Bourbon bean last time around and I had to get some more! Proof positive that this exchange is opening up folks to new, delicious coffee.

I thought it would be cool to get everyone's take on the same bean, but I really dropped the ball on planning this one out. My most recent order from SM contains 5lbs of that Ethiopia Sidama linked above, as well as a few other beans. If anyone wants to do some off-cycle roast swaps once the beans arrive and I wrap my head around them, I'm game.

Gkk, 1/2 lb of Panama is roasted and heading to the Post Office in the morning. I'll take whatever you have.

Def. You are the boss here. Tell you what. You guys figure out what bean we all should roast. Buy it and have that sent to my house and I will split it up and ship to everyone than we can have a proper throwdown. Will that work?
Fwiiw i have very good shipping abilities vis a vis NFS biz.
