Spraying a frame at home?

I'm contemplating refinishing an old (titanium) frame and I'm quite keen to have a go myself. Stripping the old paint off is fine as a local soda blaster can do that. I'm fine with the masking process, and have a setup that'll work to mount the frame whilst it's being sprayed. Plus it's only a basic design I'm planning so - aside from getting dust in the clear coat - there's not a lot that can go really wrong.

What I really want to know is what type of paint (spray enamel?) and clear coat to use, and what problems the paint is likely to face further down the track through not being baked?

Or am I just being an idiot and should I get it done properly?

Rich, Just go down to your nearest big paint shop and talk to him about automotive paints. You will need a compressor and small spray gun to get a half decent job. Two pack clear and you will be fine. He will answer all your questions if he has a clue.

Originally bought with my inheritance from my Father. I won't sell it cheap enough to make it worth anyone else's expense, and it is still a lovely bike even if I prefer the ride of my 'zetti (and despite the crack and subsequent repair).

I need to do something to fall in love with it again, and I'm kind of done with the purple thing now...

It's not the kind of bike to re-do myself though eh? Reckon I need to get it done properly.

Rich that paintjob on your baum is terrific, either pay a profesional or leave it alone. I guess if u f up a pro can always step in strip and fix it but...

I dont think youll acheive what youre looking to do.

put the damn -17 stem on it and ride the snot out of it. It's a fantastic bike and will be more zetti-like once the bars are at the same height.

If you can't get to a point where you love riding it despite the color, changing the look won't do much for you.

It's probably just me, but I think you should strip and respray it yourself. It will really make the bike *yours*.

Bad paint is like a bad hair cut. Sure nobody gets hurt but you sure can look like a dork. Good paint is harder than one might think.
