    Default Pushups

I get motivated by weird things sometimes. I stumbled on this pic last month and thought this might look real good on my backpack...

I sorta planned to take this month to warm up for a go in Sept but the very next night I was sitting on the couch lamenting my conditioning and looked down at the pint of Gelato in my hand and decided right then and there to start the next day (first of Aug). Anyway, I just hit 5K tonight - a day ahead of schedule and after taking 4 days off for Sabbaths/complications to a procedure I had last week). I'm feeling great, really enjoying the repetition of day long workouts.

Anybody else done something like this?

P.S. This is run in part by the Green Beret Foundation - you get 1 month to complete the 10K. I struggled a bit to hit numbers the first few days (hey I'm a tall/skinny cyclist after all!), but it's only an average of 334/day...

Sounds fun. Think I'll give Sept a go even though it's a 30 day month. It'll take my mind off of searching for a second career, and help get me in form in case my wife's team earns that all-inclusive trip to Cabo next winter.

Make some more bikes between those pushups!

    Sweet guys.

I've had a daily routine of a few pullups, pushups, planks - but it was a jump going ten-fold overnight. I'm averaging 500/day though (725 today) so it's not bad.

Pretty sure it's just 30/31 days not necessarily a calendar month.

Get a pair of those twisty handles (Perfect Pushup or something)? I find that they make the pushups both more difficult (the twist and extended range of motion) AND I'm more likely to do them. Easy to throw in the suitcase for business trips as well.

I'm in. I already do 100 a day w/ a slight twist to it to work out my shoulders and core muscles a little more. I really just want the patch .... Would look nice on my GR1. I already get enough "are you military?" questions though. That might be me some sort of "crossfit" questions ...

What I would give to be able to do that many pushups. My shoulders would protest and try to remove themselves from my body.

Maybe you could start a 1,000,000 Squat Club?

eff me. How do you find time for them? What does a set look like. Are you doing a fixed number of reps or just pounding as many out as you can each time?

I'm super interested, but I've done 25 at work today and can't fathom how I'd do 20 times that much without having folks walk in on me all the time laying prone on the floor.

Everyone finds their own way. I figured at the beginning that no matter how tired I got I could always finish 25, so I do 25 to a set. Every set gets me a check in my Fieldnotes where I'm keeping track, it makes for easy math. You get faster - I can whip out 25 in <40seconds now.

Edit: It doesn't take long, if you did a set every 30 mins all day that'd be over 500/day. I get busy during the day and end up stacking in the evening - 200 during the day and another 300-400 at night usually. With 25/set I can do 2 or 3 sets in a min or two.

This will be tough, no doubt. I currently do 3x30 a few times a week gripping a pair of 25lb hex dumbbells (they don't roll on you). As rmplum mentioned, raising does make it more difficult as you go deeper into the press as well as use more stabilizing hand/forearm muscles. I won't be doing those - just standard floor plank pushup. I like the idea of 25 at a time, too. We have some vacant wall offices at work that folks occasionally close the door to make calls or pump breast milk - I do wonder what they'll think when they see me come out of there each day breathing heavily with red face.

    Nooner.

I also do 100 a day along with 100 situps. 10,000 in a month? Don't think I'm up for it. I do my pushups on my fists because it's easier on my aging wrists. 10K pushups and I know I'd get some repetitive use injury.

You youngsters have fun with this.

I'm a wuss and can only do 50 (not full nose to the floor) at a time. Would love to see if I can do it so AFTER I'm back from my next adventure I'll give it a shot. Keep this thread going. I'm free for the madness end of September.
