Default Virus thread, the political one.

Wow did last night’s address go poorly.

Not only his affect (low energy, labored breathing, barely able to finish sentences and even words) but the content.

How many salient points had to be walked back? All travelers? Well not all travelers. Cargo? Not cargo. Whoever penned that address, rumored to be Stephen Miller and Jared Kushner, should be given a long time out.

"This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history."

Predictable use of the word foreign. Also a lie, predictably.

And the ban exempts the UK, where a certain family has several business interests. Predictable. A slap at the EU, predictably.

"We're having to fix a problem that four weeks ago nobody thought would be a problem."

Predictable, again, and demonstrably false. Next move, assign blame with shotgun and shovel responsibility onto states and cities. With bias toward those who vote blue.

Actually, I am waiting for the trial balloon on twitter- maybe elections need to be suspended.

It's seems clear to me that when it comes to a deadly virus, he's a dyed in the wool socialist that puts Bernie to shame.

I think every politician's nightmare is walking to the podium wearing only his underwear and just when he thinks that is bad, he sees the folder in the podium with Stephen Miller's name on it.

theres only one politician who would consider hiring stephen miller, so this is all trump's worst nightmare.
This is showing that if it doesnt have to do directly with a money making scheme, DT has neither the ability nor interest. we got what we paid for, chinese made MAGA crap... lets buy a better model next time eh? one that at least tries to use the accessories it comes with?

I am seeing Otello with Trump in the lead and Stephen Miller as Iago and Desdemona is everyone else.

As you can see, I think this thread should be the Viral Shakespearean thread.

I posted a political thing in the other thread. Oops.

I think if you polled Americans today asked asked if we should have the election in two weeks, the overwhelming answer would be yes.

We're only another bad day or two on Wall Street for the markets to be where they were when Trump took office.

Throttling unchecked flow of people from COVID-19 hotspots around the globe into our country makes sense.
It is akin to having all residents of a house comfortably in the home and locking the doors and windows.

Except it's being spread through community exposure now in the US, the hardest hit areas in Europe are already under self-imposed quarantines, and because our testing regimen has been a joke we have no idea what the largest vectors are right now. There was no discussion about how the federal government will respond if our healthcare system is overwhelmed with patients, which Italy went from where we are to totally swamped in two weeks. If they were more proactive, this would be shitty and it would suck but we'd all be dealing with it as a part of our modified day to day because, hey, the people in charge have got this. Instead there's panic and worry because the underlying feeling is the guys in charge pretty clearly don't got this.

This is more like running around after the horse is out and making sure the barn door is closed. We're way past that point.

Most US citizens are; they just don't know it and would never admit it.

No, don't think so. To extend your metaphor, there are far too many houses that aren't locked down and show no signs of doing so.

Trump's grandstanding last night to block the "Chinese virus" from invading the US by stopping all flights from continental Europe (but not the UK!???) is ludicrous. That will have virtually no benefit unless accompanied by a lockdown of mobility in and near all affected areas. Despite the administration's aggressive attempt to limit testing and diagnosis, there's already enough known cases to confirm the US has started along an exponential contagion curve -- we're just 4-6 weeks behind Italy. Latest data in China, Iran, and Italy show Covid-19 cases doubling in 4-8 days in the absence of mobility restrictions.

Nor to me, a US citizen who has been living full-time in France for 5 years. In the eyes of this virus, I'm as French as the man standing next to me, but I can get on a plane to the US anytime I want and he is banned from doing so.

    times is reporting that...

Vice President Mike Pence warned that the United States will have thousands more cases and said that Americans returning from Europe would need to self-quarantine for 14 days.

RIGHT NOWA senior Brazilian official who was with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago days ago has tested positive for the virus, Brazilian media are reporting.
