Any of the resident Ti gurus have experience resistance welding Ti? Any tips/ pointers?

I need to make some joints between 1mm WT Ti tube and M3 threaded rod, resistance welding would be easier than TIG. The alloy will be CP as I need the best corrosion resistance possible, I've had to get the other parts platinum coated but I don't want to go to that expense if I don't need to. The application needs to carry a small electrical current but won't be under much mechanical stress.

I'm planning on building a resistance welder for this job but don't want to go to that trouble and find it doesn't work.
