Also the mapping program stopped accepting new maps, even manually, which might be related.

BTW, after typing re: mapping program, I remembered it required formatting the USB stick as FAT32 - Master Boot Record before copying the map update file to the USB. Works as it should now.
Volvo sent out announcements that the new cellular unit is now ready and available at the dealership. Cost is $350 but it comes with two years of Volvo Connect free, which costs $400 otherwise. Given that's the main reason to get the replacement unit, it works out.

I’m not sure why, but I’ve always found the TR-250 to be much cooler than the TR-6. So, I think this is an improvement.

I agree. Especially with the “patina”. I have a weakness for barn-finds that look like you still park them in a barn. With chickens.

I didn’t know I agreed with you, but now I do. Look at those hood contours! And I’ve never used fender mount mirrors, but even if they’re useless they are also awesome.

functionally hood mount mirrors are fine once they're setup. the issue is that you can't really adjust them from inside the car.

    Similar info, no paywall:

"Want one? That'll be $350,995 including destination, which is more than three times the base price of a new M850i Gran Coupe. Yep."

At the end of the article click on "+ 49 more" for lots of pics of the Koons Gran Coupe.

I’m surprised to see that BMW in the NYT. I thought they discontinued their auto coverage years ago. That’s when I stopped reading it.

Not sure but I think electric cars brought it back. Or the appeal of luxury voyeurism. They keep having articles about how great Cadillacs are. And Tesla crashes.

Interesting, thanks! I’ll have to try to sneak around the paywall to check it out.

I thought of this exchange yesterday when our circa -2015 home security system threw a warning message about cellular communication.

    Oops. Time for an upgrade!

I came across this in the Twisted shop in London yesterday. It's the remade Land Rover. It looks pretty cool, but comes with sticker shock.

I nearly bought a defender in 1995. the hose-it-out interior was super attractive to me then. I was in the DC area, and on test drive it took nearly 14-seconds to get from 0-60. I figured I'd likely get myself wrecked trying to merge onto 495, so passed. I spent 5-minutes on the twisted site and didn't see a price, so it is probably far too much.
