My FB feed seems full of complaints of leaks, stinks, unwashed loads, etc. They look nice tho.
ah yes, the stinks. that's actually why i never considered them. er...that's why my mom and dad were like "son, you don't want a front loader." Mom's got one that she's kept clean over about 5 or 6 years, but she keeps that thing spotless, and the wash room has a constant flow of fresh air.

The front load at my last house was a cheapo stacked unit to fit into a small space. It worked flawlessly for the 8 years I was there and it was old when I moved in. The fancy, bells and whistles, top of the line front loader at my new house is a POS. I would replace it, but it won't completely die.
Front loader owner here.
Like about it: really good cleaning, capacity, easy load/unload (the tired clothing toss after a ride), flexible wash/spin settings compared to our old top loader
Live with: residue/gunk accumulation on bottom of door seal and door window (regular wipedown), noisier-than-top-loader spin with imbalanced load (seems unavoidable with towels), front loader funk (leave door open, run a Tide washer cleaner every few weeks)

Leave the front door open a couple days after doing laundry and you'll be fine. Any other complaint is inherent to the model and not the overall design of a front loading washer.
My anti-grump: Supposed to test drive a disc brake cross superbike for the first time this weekend.

O-Rings are important. Off to the hotel.
I don't understand why top loaders don't stink. Ours had the tranny drop out a couple of years back, and I was going to fix it and later thought better of it. When I took it apart, it was full of mud/soap scum. You would never see it unless you took it apart, looked perfectly fine when assembled. The front loader we replaced it with is a little smelly, but keeping the door open works pretty well.

I'm working from home and won't have to sit in traffic for the first time in 2 weeks. I'm going to get a lot done AND have time to run to the liquor store to stock up on some holiday season beer.
TrainerRoad workout at 4am, what a great way to start the day.
