    Default Moab

Looking to head out to Moab in May for a trip. I have never been to that part of Utah but am looking to visit Arches as well as Canyonlands National Parks. Mostly hiking but will probably rent a mt bike for a few days while there.

Any recommendations for where to stay out there?

    Nothing to recommend on lodging.
But get a burger at Milts Stop and Eat.
And read s bit about how Moab was named. Some entertaining Old Testament stuff.

My perfect trip there is Arches/Canyonlands, then Bryce, then Zion. It gets progressively more amazing for sightseeing and hiking. The food and lodging in Zion is 10x what is available elsewhere, in quality and in quantity.

Moab near the quaint downtown eateries is nice. Near the outskirts, it's a study in rustbelt decay.

I'm heading out to Moab in late May to meet up with a group to canoe Labyrinth Canyon (Green River) for a week. Pretty stoked about it. It's most of the group I did the Grand Canyon with back in 2017. That was the best trip ever, we'll try to beat it this time. I'd like to cycle Moab, maybe a return trip later in the summer. My sister broke both wrists on a descent in 1988, that's the extent of my Moab knowledge.

I've stayed at several places; The Bowen (had a room right next to the main road, semis roll through at all hours), Moab Valley Inn (liked it, across from the brewery but a walk for most other things), Hotel Moab Downtown (rooms decent but wanted you to sign something saying you're not brining a bike in the room, if you did you'd get fined) I did *not* like locking bikes on the car for multiple days. Best Western; much more accommodating wrt bikes (our friends said no to the bike signing) and went to the one nearly across the street.

Go eat early; there's limited options so everyone goes and stands in line. Thai, Red Rock Bakery, Love Muffin, & the Moab Brewery (order cans).

Look into a shuttle; this season has a ton of snow so the Whole Enchilada is probably out but they will have options.

Another bonus is that you can take in other people with you such as family or friends. Places like Zion you can walk in 3 additional adults (IIRC), just as you would with a vehicle in other parks.

    1. Browse Back and Beyond Books on Main St.
    2. If you're inclined to explore off the beaten path, talk with Mike Coronella at Deep Desert Expeditions. For example, a guided trip to see the Great Gallery pictographs and petroglyphs in Horseshoe Canyon would be a memorable experience.
