    Default Valentine's Cooks

Running the half-marathon tomorrow with my wife so dinner was a little early tonight. Reverse-seared steaks, par-boiled/roasted potatoes, and roasted cauliflower. The steaks were close to perfect. 15 minutes on the BGE at 250-275 and then pulled them off, let the BGE stoke up to 700-750 and 1 minute on each side.

The little bowl has ground mushroom powder that got sprinkled over everything :-). She puts up with me it's the least I can do.

a prime NY strip on the weber grille, charcoal and threw a few small pieces of pecan on there too
asparagus and a salad with greens from the garden (need to eat them before it gets hot here)

no butter on our steak though, olive oil/salt/pepper and i hit the coffee grinder for a few seconds and rubbed that on one side as well

Catered a dinner party for 10 to benefit Foster Care of Rhode Island. Fun night. We call it "Let the men do the cooking!" Raised some cash for youth in transition

My wife was working all day Saturday, so we had a date in town on Friday evening. Saturday morning, I arose early to wrangle our toddler and make some breakfast for my two valentines. Whipped up some oatmeal buttermilk pancakes to be served with nutella, strawberries and whipped cream. Some half decent turkey sausage from whole paycheck on the side. When she came home from work I had a couple filets on the grill with a touch of chimichurri, simple baked potatoes and aspagragus finished over the coals, hit the spot. Earlier in the day during naptime, I melted down a bit of chocolate and dipped some strawberries. That scored some major extra credit points.

Apple- and fennel-marinated tempeh steaks over a bed of roasted brussels sprouts. Served alongside ravioli; homemade pasta, garlic and ginger sauteed sweet potato filling with a vegan chanterelle cream-sauce. Served with a bottle of New Belgium's Gruit.

Dessert was a vegan Boston cream pie; homemade cookie crust, custard filling, a thin layer of vanilla cake all topped with a chocolate ganache.

Made a pillow-fort and watched Birdman.

Too cold to dine out so we dropped by the Italian deli, picked up some olives, tomatoes, aged Romano, fresh bread, tiramisu and some other goodies. Mrs. RW then whipped up a little homemade bolognese sauce and I sourced the wine and the firewood. Simple and ever so tasty.
