About 4 or 5 days ago I picked up a 1-day overtime trip scheduled for today. I almost immediately regretted it with the hurricane forecast and a bunch of cruddy weather for the east coast. As it turned out my F/O was awesome and the weather wasn't nearly as bad as it was supposed to be. Either that or I'm so conditioned to 45 mph gusty winds in Norfolk that I don't care anymore. Either way, it wasn't nearly as stressful as I thought it would be. Glad for that. Small wins. Good F/Os make my life so much better than the other kind. I hope I have a good one for the next four days.....

The past 24 hours were insane:
I had to complete my dept budgets for 3 continents.
The kitchen faucet broke and there was water everywhere under the sink
My wife's car got a flat
I went to take my car for inspection and my headlight bunt out
It's raining and the roof of my bathroom is leaking.

But In light of recent news in Oregon and Syria none of these things matter. I couldn't be more happy to be safe and sound with my family at home. So much to be thankful for.

My daughter who spent all of Feb & part of April in the hospital (she has Lupus), just made her college club hockey team! I was happy just to hear she wanted (and had the energy) to try-out. She’s a freshman, and so far so good-healthwise. She’s determined not to let her condition get in her way. Yes, I’m a very proud father. She’s a brave kid.

Girls put on a hustle & footwork clinic yesterday. Worst to first with only a nudge in speed and agility. They're doing the rest all on their own.

Everything seems to still be going well with getting the new mortgage. Home inspection on the new house is done, no major issues found, and easily came to agreement and resolving the small things. Going today to pick out new carpet and start shopping options for a shop. Leaning towards something like this, 16x20 or maybe 16x24, but probably on a slab and with vinyl siding. Way more affordable than I expected. I'll finish the interior myself...that should be a good learning experience haha.

3 weeks from today we'll be waking up in our new house for the first time.
Mortgage cleared to close, all contingencies satisfied, and closing date is firm.

Less than a week to go. Our short term apartment is getting smaller by the day...

Oh man, high 40's with cold North winds spitting rain one day, then in the 80's a few days later, are both pretty amazing for riding and Fall colors. Nothing like a wet leaf slapping you in the face to make you feel alive.

I'm 90 minutes early but what the hey.
We moved today. So, unless we move to my wife's homeland(UK)' I am hoping this is the house our kids live in when they graduate high school. Our fifth move since mid 2011 (tho one was for temporary housing).
A shit ton to unpack, but I think we'll manage.

Now to figure out just how fast I can commute by bike versus driving. Based on our most recent location a few miles east, I think it'll pretty much be a dead heat.

Every Winter I buy a Season's pass to Sugarloaf. I always keep in my mind that sometime in October the price goes up, and try to make the deadline/save a few bucks. Yesterday I checked the website and I had missed it, so I called, and....a real live person answered on the third ring! Better: she transferred me to another person that answered, a lovely friendly Woman, who listened sympathetically to my sad tale. She asked: did you have a Season's pass last year? I said yes. That was that, she gave me the pre-deadline rate! No account, no passwords, no keying in this and that, no electronic voice, hold music, transfers to nowhere, argument, etc and nothing. That's the way it should be!! Cheers and let it Snow!!!!

i didn't get my fingers lopped off, and i stayed rubber side up, and the driver gave me $40 to replace the tape!
pretty solid getting-doored-but-not-completely situation if i may say so.

note: this was my first day bike commuting to the new job, not the best way to kick things off...but whatever, im enjoying it.
