the closest you can come without getting something like a miata or that subaoyta brz thing is probably my 128i or that new mini limited edition thing with the seat delete....it has no options, so no sun roof, no power or heated seats....but the days of factory stripped lancers or a porsche club sport are over...all cars have a/c now and radios- if i could have deleted those things as well as the rear seats i would have.

still- it's the only car of that small size with a perfect 50/50 weight balance and if you "fix" bmw's attempt to save doctors' lives by building in some understeer- you've got probably the best handling production car right now.

It is hefty for a hatchback. It's also pretty fast. That said, I make fun of my buddy for buying a $35k Golf, or whatever it was. I have driven it though and it is pretty balanced and a good drive. But it sucks gas for being a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder. The car needs to be 300 lbs less, that's for sure.

As to a pared down sports car? Porsche GT3? If your budget is $130K and upwards that might be a good car to cut tenths of a second off that grueling 1.3 mile commute.

the actual value will probably be higher than the quoted residual so i could always trade it in or sell it. alternatively, i could buy it outright at the end of the lease. i've always modified my leases....the last few vws went back to the dealer with $3000 shine suspensions in 'em! you just got to return to stock the stupid shit they can see...eg stock airbox etc.

The Porsche Cayman R is exactly that. No sound insulation, no carpets, available without AC and stereo. 330hp @ 2900 lbs.
    It's been discontinued in 2014, I think.
Lot of money for a car of such limited usefuleness IMO. But no doubt a ton of fun.

At one point, you could delete the heater on your camaro. Just came with a defroster. Somewhere there is a COPO '69 with a 427, steelies, drum brakes, and nothing else.

You'll need to hire someone to re-pack the drag chute 5 times over your 1.3 mile commute, but I'd say its worth it.

via petrolicious... both on ebay.... pick up a Members Only jacket while you're there and be set. I really liked this style of BMW when I was a kid.

    ...which would be objectively awesome.

Incidentally, GM has resurrected the COPO name, but applied it to something that, by definition, isn't a COPO-style car. Apparently, COPO now just means fast. Siiiiigh.

It is kinda sad. I liked how the original COPO orders were for dumb shit you shouldn't be able to buy. Also, if you're around Nashville, cruise by the Holiday Inn Express in Hendersonville. This guy owns it and keeps a car on display. He had a Yenko on display a year ago or so. Whatever he has out is kinda ridiculous.

I'll have to see if I can find any pics of the L88 the guy across the street from my parents had for a while, or his survivor 70 Chevelle 454/450.

My lord. That collection is totally ridiculous.

To try to tie this back in to the OP... I think you should put an LS1 in a Miata. Practical, ridiculous, absurd HP-to-weight AND a hairdresser's car. I think it ticks all your boxes.

Yup all time favorite and can be had <$20K used.

Subaru BRZ should also be considered.

Whomever signed off on the toyabaru brz should have their eyes gouged out because they clearly don't know how to use them. Here is one of the best chassis/engine combos ever- something that could have been an iconic car for the ages and they make that cheap, plastic looking eyesore? It's average, boring and ugly but not ugly enough to be iconic like the m coupe. Shit, miata pulled it off with Mazda why couldn't Subaru and toyota?

Craig, you been sniffing too much paint? The BRZ looks awesome.

(and I'm this || close to buying one. I figure I'll wait a bit until they have the bugs worked out.)

No it doesn't. But it should have. It's boring, plasticky and off.
