Why is there still a shortage of toilet paper? How much toilet paper can people buy?
Expect to get COVID19 in the next 365 days
Do not expect to get COVID19 in the next 365 days

Why is there still a shortage of toilet paper? How much toilet paper can people buy?
Reminds me of a book I read years ago called "The Sorcerer's Apprentice' about a man from England that traveled around India after a childhood there. He commented that early on the people there looked at him and went "You want to use that perfectly good paper for what again, exactly? Don't people in England wash themselves?"
When I was a kid I lived for a year in my grandparents' fibro shack in Woy Woy which had a thunderbox in the back yard complete with torn squares of newspaper on a nail.
I figure if we run out of toilet paper we'll just get de-masted copies of a Murdoch paper, they're full of shit anyway.

I'm building a fort in the back bedroom with my hoarded beer cans.
Clearly Mark is winning this thread. Close second for John.

This rush to TP in the US is utterly ridiculous.
I don't see how we know what is really happening with the coronavirus because people I know that have symptoms can't get tested. This problem must be multiplied throughout the country. Someone in Houston wrote me wanting advice on brazing equipment especially oxygen concentrators (they are now in short supply). He has all the symptoms of Covid-19 sickness but can't find anyplace to get a test because he hasn't traveled recently. One of my friends here in SW Michigan got back from a trip to Romania and also had the symptoms and was really sick but couldn't get tested locally because he couldn't check all the boxes required. The closest place was 100 miles away in Grand Rapids.
there is an online calculator that determines how long your TP supply will last.
Probably based on the model of "how much $ you need to retire".

This is the problem with our society... we need an online calculator to do math that we should be able to do in our heads.
I bought a sandwich the other day, bill was $6.61. I handed cashier $1.61, then a ten dollar bill. She handed me back the $1.61 and then broke then ten, and asked why I had given her too much money. I cried a little inside.
I know someone whose wife was exposed. She didn't have any symptoms. He ended with quite a few but was not tested. In another situation, a woman hallway bumped into someone who was later diagnosed with C19. She's having a tough time at home but not enough to be hospitalized. She was not tested. Multiply across the country and we'll never have good data on sickness. I do wonder if an antibody test is developed and included in physicals. Maybe then we'll get some interesting data.

Even if you can get a test then what?
The hospitals are so overwhelmed that you probably won't be considered unless you are at the point of respiratory failure.
There were people waiting for 8 hours in the pouring rain to get into Elmhurst hospital last week.
I'm a pediatrician in a community owned hospital. We're a town of about 20,000 with clinics in a few surrounding communities. We are a busy 37 bed hospital with a robust obstetric practice and a large pediatric practice in our region. This is also a fiercely independent organization (which is part of why I stay on and love my job). Short term we're prepping for the storm coming. This short term planning will hit our long term survival. I'm seeing 3 patients today (as it should be, STAY HOME). All my primary providers are in the same boat. I am also covering hospital for call, deliveries, and expecting move to emergency room care soon. Financially there is no way our organization can survive. This will happen all over the country, especially in smaller communities and rural settings. I'm dedicated to do my part now, but what about our community needs long-term?
Just some rambling thoughts...
Thank you for all that you do, @Todd Amunrud. You and many others are appreciated.
Our grateful nation is truly indebted to medical professionals from sea to shining sea.
