I think of that every time I see cross-fitters.
Cross-fit jumped the shark when they started having competitions. The original intent (as I understand it) was cross training for real sports. A part of the original spirit was get out and do a sport.

400% growth since 09 and now 10,000 affiliates world wide.

Apparently they didn't get the memo.

To each their own but I find the CF Games far more entertaining to watch that cycling.

CF actually encourages people to "get out and do a sport".

Soon we'll be discussing whether CF is clean or not and how "dangerous" it is……….

Didn't it also start with the intent of a workout of the day to be able to be performed on your own without a big investment in equipment or a traditional gym? There are at least 5 crossfit gyms within 2 miles of my house.

    my votes are for:
    multi-discipline gymnasts
    rugby backs, specifically the centers
    and middleweight wrestlers

but if you think about it...gymnastics are a different kind of cross-fit..

I've had a hoot doing CF the last 17 months. Yup, there's a lot of talk/internet chin music about it, who gives a shit. I dropped 25 lbs and can do all sorts of new fun stuff I couldn't do before, like ski my buddies into the ground w/out waking up in agony, surf longer, and paddleboard in current better that ever, better on the bike as well. There's a section of current near my favorite beach, it's make or break and I used to fear it, now I go there for fun. I also feel safer while Sailing given my additional strength. Shit works and if yer not a douche-bag, you'll have an absolute ball doing it, just like life. Having said that, a lot of the best guys at my gym suck at sports, its freaking funny, throwing a football-nope, vollyball-nope, etc.. I hear the word athlete and I think sports, lots of sports. I'm also partial to Alpine Ski Racing, particularly Downhill, those guys are incredibly strong, durable, and have nerves/balls of steel and to me, thats a fit athlete.

    motocross

huge VO2, coordination, balance, and overall body strength.

as for cf -- fine, with enough rest to recover from the intensity, and if there is good coaching on technique at the local box. olympic lifts, heavy loads, and shitty technique are a really bad combo.

I agree with Doof agreeing with me. MotoCross. Having known a few, they really have to be prepared in every way to do what they do for as long as they do.

Good friend and excellent bike racer is a personal trainer for pro motocrossers. He trains with them as well, and has gotten even better on the bike. He was always a stud, and at 43 still kills it. I do not know much about moto-x, but apparently you guys are correct bout there vo2 levels and over all athleticism.

I will watch any bike race over cross fit, I kinda get it but that shit is dreadful to watch

Local paper had a story about Rich , apparently he has just signed a lifetime contract. Says it is one of the most lucrative endorsement deals in reebok history.

Man, I need to learn how to do a pull up and lift concrete blocks.

Tennis. Cause I used to play a ton of hours a week. And now, I can barely stand up after 30 minutes of rallying. Screw you, cycling.

The OP is a silly question but if I could be a stud at any sport it would be Basketball.

Well, Rich just won his fourth title, and will now retire. 27 years old and retired, said he was going home to be a dad. Seriously nice guy that is good at what he does. Call him an athlete, an exerciser or whatever. Good on him!

I'm with FF on this. Bike racing is crazy boring to watch for the most part. I get what I'm watching, but it's mostly just hours and hours of pedalling.

During the Tour I wish they would do a 30min recap of each stage. That way you could see all the highlights and the finish without sitting through hours of pedalling. I don't have time for that, I gots stuff to do!

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?
