My youngest kid, 17 year old daughter had a fender (and grill and hood, etc) bender on 128 yesterday. Old car messed up a bit, but she’s perfectly ok.

Her fault, rear-ended a guy in stop & go traffic. His SUV was fine...

Accidents suck, but hopefully she’s learned something from this. And again, thank god she’s ok.

It's Halloween. I'm not giving out candy this year. I'm giving out eggs, toilet paper and shaving cream. I planned ahead. I went down to the drug store and bought up all those little cans of shaving cream they call "Travel Size" but I call them Fun Size.

I'm finally seeing the downward side of this cold that we picked up in Illinois. And while I'm doing full-time kid duty (my wife is back in Illinois for a funeral today), I'm still managing to get some things done.

One frame only needing another coat or two of clear, one more just needing braze-ons and finish work, and another with main triangle complete and rear triangle starting, two more in design.

Rode my regular route yesterday. Perfect weather. They just repaved the best part, the long downhill with sweepers. Yesterday was my first time down it since. Smooth as butter, pavement nice and grippy. It was about as good as it gets on a bike.

My boy loved the airplane costume I made him so much more than I could have hoped for. Trick-or-treating was a blast.

Don't give him any ideas! It's WAY overrated.

New tires, new chain, new tubes installed. Weather is kind of nice. White Hotel guests are departing this weekend.

We hosted a ‘dry run’ fundraising dinner last night, to prep for a major fundraising effort for my daughter’s high school (my wife is a board member.) It not only reminded me how much I love the place, but a little distance and time helped me see even more how truly exceptional it is as a school.

I’m grateful my kid received that education; proud that the exceptional people who run the place still seem to want me to hang around and contribute; and kind of blown away by the people I had sitting around my dining room table. It reinforced my long-term commitment to the school, which was pretty much exactly what we hope these dinners are going to accomplish for others.

Plus the whole thing was catered. It was pretty entertaining to be waited on by a stranger in my own home.

I arrived at work this morning only to be sent home, as the building had no power. Paid day off. This happens at least once a year, and is about the only upside of working in a building purchased by the government for $1 in an old naval shipyard and industrial wasteland.

Oldest just out of surgery for lateral meniscus tear. Short recovery!! Other option was 8 weeks non weight bearing, so this is good news.

I'm gonna kick this one off, because my grump was:

    eff windows and eff microsoft.
Well, I dd'ed a live image onto a USB stick, booted from that, mounted my /, /home, and /boot, chroot, and reinstalled the kernel. I didn't even have to download the damn thing since I keep the last 3 versions in /var/cache/pacman/pkg. Reboot and it's golden with no data loss.

    Linux is the best.

Gotta love cold blustery Fridays, as the bike path was almost deserted and had a great ride into work.

Hey, if reflected glory is all I got to bask in I'll take it. They awarded my brother a metric shit ton of money for a research breakthrough. And in that context, the Boston Globe (I love you guys, I really do) is the grump that can do what the thread title suggests. Read again what he said. He's for reals with that.

My bro is on his way down for cFitt, the 258 mile cross fl tt mtb race. It's always nice to have him him around if even for a day. My day is looking like a couple of Ducati commutes in 60-70 degree weather, lunch with a client and quality time in the paint booth laying down a color I'm really excited to lay down. Tomorrow is my youngest kid's robotics tournament. All in all there is a lot of fun lined up.
