The club is Connecticut Yankee B.C. and is still the club I sponsor (and have for the last 30 seasons). It began in the mid 1960s as a local racing club. When the ABL changed its regulations to allow sponsorship in the early 1970s (Data point: I don't remember any message board threads then about the governing body's being tyrannical and possibly sullying the sport and its future - but hey, I was online much less back then...) CYBC was one of the original organizations to secure sponsors for its racing members. Witcomb USA was the first one. When I arrived in Connecticut by dint of my job at WUSA, racing with CYBC was a natural. When Witcomb USA folded and the club needed support, it arrived by way of Nick Dyslin, he a former salesman at WUSA. Through Nick's company, Anown America, the club survived with various sponsors going through to 1980 or so. These included Dawes Cycles, Alec Bird Cycles, Knight Fabrications, and several others. The outfits we wore always reflected whoever was the title sponsor at that time. Knight Fabrications was a framebuilding company based in Wolverhampton.

I visited Branford Bike in person this last weekend. Great little shop with ooh-lah-lah from wall to wall. As I recall the door opened to a Merckx Titanium AX directly in front of me. A Colnago Roger de Vlaeminck behind that. Three? Four? lovely uncommon bikes to the left with just enough room to walk between. Like I said, little.

Either everything was built with Campagnolo or I was delirious.

I ogled wheels, components, clothes. Fondled (gently) Super Record EPS. Got on the waiting list for two items I need, bought a Roleur, then dragged myself out the door.

Guess the one image I can't get out of my head: your bike. A pristine red and white cyclocross. I discussed the TRP brakes with Doug who loves 'em. I didn't ask the price. Too small for me.

Anyway, I have a lot to think about right now but your bike is steadily blotting out all else. Thanks a lot.

Branford Bike - I haven't heard those words mentioned since Tim left Branford. I did
read a long while back that his place (in the northwest someplace?) burned to the
ground. Has it risen from the ashes atmo?
