Ah crud. Can I change it?

Okay, I'll keep late September free for a Geelong visit. Nic - yes please - have a chat to the 36T guys and see what you can tee up. I'm free to visit anyday, just give me enough warning.

You know, if I had my way I'd probably spend two weeks or more of every year at The Mancave. Good times!

We could combine business with pleasure: I used to run a winery near Geelong and still know some of the better local winemakers.

I can feel a plan coming together
With a winery involved I'm thinking more like a Friday afternoon or if Nexus are open, a Saturday. I'll let you know how I get on.

Unfortonutely you can't convert a page to a group. What you might do is create the group and make a pinned post on your original page with the link to the group.

Umm, a bit of trade protocol: I won't arrange a winery visit on Friday or Saturday (or Sunday), they're the busy days. Early in the week is good, the winemakers will have more time to show us around. These won't be tourist visits, these are people who were colleagues of mine, in one case we go back nearly thirty years.

Okay everyone, thanks for the advice regarding 'Groups' vs 'Community'. I've now set up a BCBA Closed Group that everyone can join, and put a pointer from the old BCBA page.

Anyone interested in a school excursion?
Yes I'm interested Warwick. I'm available anytime. I've been communicating with 36T as well. I am more than happy to share info on both this new stuff and also my steel framebuilding knowledge.

A good indication of the issues of being 'at the arse end of the world':

Bought some H Plus Son Archetypes via mail order on Friday, got them Monday. From the UK. Can't get them here, but you can get them direct from H Plus Son, but they're more expensive.

    Nuts.

That's normal. Order locally from Shimano through the LBS usually takes 2 weeks. 2-3 days from OS.

Sorry for the late response. It's been a bit frantic finishing up at work before a 3 week trip back to Europe (just boarding now). I've spoken with Simon from 36T and he is keen to meet up. He did ask what the general intention of the meeting would be so putting together an agenda to see how best to arrange the meeting would be a good idea. Nexus would be an issue, however, as they are only guests there and a lot of their work is commercially sensitive. The best option here would be to see if there are any upcoming open days to tag onto. There is also Deakin University which may be an easier option to visit. They have several composite themed under and post graduate courses so may be more amenable to meeting with the carbon frame building fraternity.
If we could get a few ideas together of what we'd like to learn and put this through to Simon that would be a great start.
    Cheers for now.

Regarding the Nexus: since its raison d'etre is to connect the researchers with potential commercial partners and since we as a group represent one of the obvious target markets, it seems to me that a fruitful approach would be to contact the Nexus directly and talk to them about the possibility of joining the Nexus as a group.

The question then becomes "what part of our fabrication processes would most benefit from access to cutting edge research?"

My vote is for potential methods of internally joining CF tubes so as to create a strong joint that requires no or minimal overwrap.

Well, we're all aspiring builders of carbon fibre bicycles, so getting to know others in the field and learning about technologies and resources would be advantageous to everyone, I would've thought.

In terms of 36T, I thought that some sort of strategic alliance with carbon frame builders might be good, because frankly, putting those prototype wheels on a freakin' Giant to promote them makes me dry heave.

i assume 36T are making those rims in house? my advice is an alliance towards either sourcing bladder molded tubes and stays from them(they have the materials and technology) or learning from them how to do it.

Got some plugs made so I can produce some molds for stays as a tester to see if I've got what it takes to bladder mold. Lots of thoughts in the mind bank, so little time.

On a serious note, this is cool. I still need to get down and talk shit with you one day.
