I wait all week for these and they're well worth the wait, even though the house will smell like them for the next few days. My wife's recipe is super yummy.

I realize Chanukah is over but I had to throw this into the mix.

The Hebrew reads as "Happy Chanuka".
And, don't forget to eat those doughnuts as well. Everything should be fried in oil for the next 8 days!
Happy First Night of Chanuka 2015!

More lecture/demonstration/story-time than actual holy-of-holys, really, but I think we captured the spirit far more genuinely than any spew-some-Hebrew-&-light-some-candles night with Mom & Dad ever did.
Tonight the missus & I bemoaned not owning a menorah for yet another year...so instead we just lit some shit on fire.
Tomorrow night: Two shits.

Re: Happy Chanukah
I forget which drill bit is the size of menorah candles. 1/4"? But that makes it easy to always have a menorah. I used to make one for my wife out of found wood each year - branch, chair leg, etc. - but she is usually so busy this time of year, I ended up lighting the candles myself. Which makes not a lick of sense because I am not even sure I believe I exist let alone any sort of universal organizing principle. So I stopped and she seems fully functional even so.
Imagine a religion based on disagreeing has a set of candles that fit 99.99% of menorahs out there. I'm over simplifying (before you start arguing with me) but you know, kind of mind bending nonetheless.

Mel Brooks explained this in History of the World Part ?, Moses comes down Sinai, and says "I have these 15 Commandments",
#14 was weights and measures, including Menorah candle sizes. In the Talmud is was decided the measurements weren't metric
but BSC, since G-d is an Englishman.

What comedian was it who asked "According to the Chinese calendar it's the year 4713. According to the Hebrew calendar it's the year 5775. How did the Jews survive for a thousand years without Chinese food!?!?!"

"Based on disagreeing"? No, it's based on argument! And this conclusively demonstrates the value of that method.

My ancestors said things like "Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree, now won't we? Please pass the creamed corn." No one argued and everyone waited their turn to speak at the dinner table. But then my dad married my mom and all hell broke loose. She learned him but good, and we've been arguing ever since. But sometimes the old ways slip back in.
My wife's family talks simultaneously. The funniest line at the dinner table is "You're not listening to me!" Well duh.

Ask two Rabbis the same question and get three different answers.

Bonus spelling word for my 8 yr old this week is Hannukkah - OK chosen ones what is the correct spelling? Sits back to enjoy some Matzo and Whitefish & Pike in Jelled Broth from Manischewitz - is this the Kraft of the Kosher world?
