An NSX. Kidding! My uncle had a black on black factory slant nose 911 Turbo that was a five speed transmission away from being perfect.

Man, I see that I was beaten to pooping on the 911 in a 911 thread. The clear answer is the 914/6 in orange (green also acceptable). One day I'll buy one or put one together.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the 356. Porsche 356 has to be the most beautiful car in the world. It's like a VW with teeth.

Vast of amounts of German engineering to make a silly design almost work.

A 911 is a road going V-tail Bonanza, aka the Fork Tailed Doctor Killer.
or in bike terms, Lets try our new carbon clinchers down Tuna Canyon.

Dr. Porsche should have stuck to tanks.

I always wanted a 993, but then I spent a week with a 991 Carrera S earlier this month. Eff me it was good. Too good? Maybe. The grip was just unreal, and they truly have tuned out most of the handling "quirks" that the previous cars could have. You wanna lift halfway through that corner at 0.8g? You shouldn't, but have at it - the nose will tuck in a bit, but the right end of the car stays in front unless you are a complete caveman with the pedals. Stability control obviously helps with this. I don't have $110k in my car budget so it really doesn't matter how good it was. But it's there in my mind and it will take a lot to displace it from that area of my brain. There are merits to having a less capable car as a daily driver though. That being said, the Cayman is still probably the best current model if you just want to drive.

I'd personally stay away from the AWD cars (though I'd take a 959 thankyouverymuch). A Porsche should steer right, and sending power through the front wheels gets in the way a bit here.

I owned an '86 944 (insert laugh track). It wasn't "fast", but remains one of the best balanced cars I have ever driven, and it was built like a tank.

Which is why Road and Track used the 944 to test tires. Have any 968 Club Sports snuck into the US yet?

I saw a nice 964 3.6 Turbo this weekend while out on my ride. I also saw an asshat in a 997 Turbo with a GoPro on the rear fender.

He was probably concerned with being rear-ended by a texting cyclist.

the only problem w/these cars is 99.9% of the guys who own them look like idiots driving them. i'd love one, but i'd look like a tool every time i got behind the wheel. i rarely encounter an exception.

For a classic/vintage Porsche I've always wanted a 356 coupe- they're just so beautiful. For a modern car I'd go with a Cayman R. Both of those cars cost way more money than I've got so if I had to pick a fun project car it would be a 914 with an engine swap or a 944 Turbo. Hell I'd even take a 912 for a fun project car.

The 911 I want is either a late 80s whale tale turbo or it's spelled Cayman S.

Earl Carroll passed. Seems fitting to say something considering.

Hey, I liked this Porsche just fine. It was just a loaner from a friend but dang I do covet that beast. What could be wrong with a drop top Carrera with 300+ hp and a stick? Nothing. That is the correct answer. Great car.
