It seems to me that bike that are set up in what I would call a "neutral" way always look the best. That means stems that are 110 or 120mm long. not too much and not too little seat post exposed, hoods not too high and not too low, set back seatposts, but not TOO set back of post, and of course a bike with too many spacers under the stem, and usually bikes that are 55-58cm look the best. Usually anything that has to be set up in a weird way will make a bike look bad.

    gets it.

it helps to have proper slope, bars, normal seatstays that can fit any wheel, proper clearance, matching this and that, etc

    here is a good one

I'm 6'1", does that count? If it does then I should post pictures of my Corsa.

It's blacker than the blackest black, sort of like that recent carbon insanity on Flux's blog.

Setback posts....man....A bike has to be damn near perfect for me to not notice a setback post. Maybe I'm just jealous that I can run one.

That white Gaulzetti is damn near perfect. Zipp stem kills it, though.

Merckx on a Colnago, Gimondi on a Bianchi, etc., etc. That's proper....

That's a mighty bold statement. We all know where to find the blackest black.

I've seen gay-bars and seat bags.

I hear ya on some bars and seat bags. However, someone please explain this setback post argument.

My impression is that some setback posts are butt ugly (most look nice). Zero setback posts seem to always look pretty good.. Of course neither should be for looks, but we are tallking looks on this thread.

zero setback posts rarely look good. either the bike is in the 54-58 sweet spot of visually appealing sizes but it doesn't fit the rider and they need a zero post, or the rider is outside the bell curve where bikes look visually attractive and the size needed forces the post issue again. many of us on the board look at the old photos of Merckx et al and the posts all have a little setback.

as a "tall dude" I'd say none of my bikes look visually appealing. they can't because I'm outside the bell curve. the wheels are out of proportion to the frame. everything from there suffers even on my made to measures.

A beautiful machine and one of my favorites. He's actually sold the bike as I understand it. Too much of a "stock broker's bike" image.

?????????????????? That's too bad. Doesn't make much sense to me. All is well that ends well though I suppose (if it ended well).
