Do you mean these, with a second internal sun visor, are no-good? Seems like a possible solution to your problem.

Nah. I'm talking about a lens that would be darker towards the top and lighter (but still dark) at the bottom.

That way when the sun is blaring down on you, you can lift your head to block it with the darkest part of the visor.

Why not photochromic? I love my photochromic glasses for cycling...

I have ridden with photocromatic shields but they don't address my thoughts.

I want super dark at the top of the lens and a progressively less dark middle to lower portion.

That way I don't need a visor/beak ADV type attachment to block the low hanging sun.

How about using a light smoke shield and then applying some darker window tint near the top?

That is a bloody good idea actually.

My main reason for wanting this is my commute right now has me heading into the sun both in the morning and at night and It's wicked hard to see.

I just run a strip of electrical tape across the top of the shield. Tilt my head down when riding into the sun. Smoked shields don't do much to a setting sun.

Been using a pair of Etymotic noise canceling ear plugs for the last year.

Wanted to try something different and these were recommended to me. They are great!

Super cheap and they knock off 30db.

I do this but use the 40mm wide version so it comes down a good distance. Don't have to drop the head so much.

I'm liking the Nolan as I wear specs and can't be bothered with multiple pairs of glasses floating around. Though a pair of photochromatic sports specs is on the horizon.

Nice, I had a 990, it was a hoot. Those things are the world's biggest dirt bikes but they are great fun on pavement as well. But what happened to your windshield?

Thanks! The previous owner cut it down claiming putting the rider's head in clean, non-buffeting air was better than dealing with the turbulence several other windscreens he tried produced. Seems to work in the month I've had it..
