Last day of school. Get to vicariously experience the thrill thru my 7 year old.

Going into 11 days off as of 2:00 this afternoon. The next week will be a lot of riding and building. Then off to Illinois (where my wife and daughter-the-younger are) with daughter-the-elder for MIL's wedding. Hopefully I'll get to ride the bike I shipped out there last month. Anyway, tomorrow I'll be scouting gravel routes, Sunday doing the Fathers' Day thing (would it be creepy to tote my dad's ashes around with us?), going along with daughter-the-elder's field trip on Monday, then more gravel scouting on Tuesday. Life is looking good for the near future.

I have no complaints, feeling fit and healthy in mind and body. Going sailing tmmrw in the rain it's gonna be great. Going sailing Sunday in the sun, it's gonna be great.

Picked up my 1/4 share of local grass-fed Black Baldy earlier this week. Burgers tonight and steaks thawing for Father's Day. Out of beer but beer runs are moments of pleasure.

Maybe even make some home made corn dogs for tomorrow's group ride.

It was a "unfortunately/fortunately" afternoon. Happily it's ended on an upbeat note. Found out the top pinch-nut on my Onza headset (some 23 years old) had stripped, so my Barkley Softride is out of commission for a while. Fortunately my TiCycles Softride was just a couple parts-swaps away from road-worthy. The gravel bike was making some bad noises when I rode it Wednesday, so I was a little worried that it might be on the disabled list as well, but some quick checks of the crank and BB, and all is quiet again.Might actually be the shoes...

    Ah, N+1 has it's merits...

Got my drivers license renewed for 8 yeas today over my lunch hour with a minimum of fuss. Red Sox won. Home form work, wife has the dogs at the park for their run already. The cooler on the lanai is full of iced up beers, the bulk of which is the Sam Adams beer of summer case from Costco ( wife went shopping today). Streaming new to me music over the airport from the amazon prime service to the outdoor speakers. Trade wind is blowing nice and comfy perfect at 82 or so. Neighbor just handed me a bunch of bananas from a relatives tree somewhere on island. Time to open another beer.

    Feeling blessed....

I gave my two weeks (and two days) notice and they told me to go home... two weeks of paid vacation until I start my new job (100% work from home!)

Booyah! That's the sh!t right there.

I've been traveling lots lately, not many chances to ride. Commuted to work this morning. MUT was buzzing with activity that most days would have annoyed me, high school sports teams taking up the entire width, kids with no idea where/how to ride in traffic, it was a little muggy, but it was awesome.

    Enjoy the weekend all.

Was a beautiful 2.5 hours this morning. I do need to figure out a better tubular storage system though.

I hated that I had to drive to work this morning, but at least I averaged this for my commute into DC

Jetta Sportwagon Diesel with a manual transmission. The diesel seem to like warm humid air. I am averaging between 650 and 700 miles for a 14.5 gallon tank.

That is awesome. I don't know why we think adding batteries is the cure.

I love that TDIs get great mpg and the Sportwagon is a very practical platform, but the benefits of going electric are tangible. Ask the same question in Automobiles - I'll be glad to lay it out.

Using Amazon Prime's new Prime Music to listen to the Meat Puppets while editing the new website.

The request to update our A record for DNS was submitted twenty minutes ago. So the website is finally going live. As is the new main phone line menu tree. As is the first real implementation of document management for our operations. Next work week is looking good.

Damn - that's double my GTI mileage. Granted I don't have a light foot and my commute takes me through downtown ATL. (i.e. 10mph stop and go, then 90 to make up time on hwy400)

Yes that mileage is impressive and I doubt any hybrids can match it but when you see how complicated VW TDI exhausts are to meet emissions standards and bare in mind the Jetta and Golf don't need the urea injection, hybrids don't look so bad.

I've been grumpy for about nine months. Mostly due to existential and financial stress related to my wife's health. Wednesday we got some news that takes away the financial stress. Additional good news regarding treatment is on the horizon. I feel 40 lbs. lighter, and can now be grumpy about insignificant things. I have a free weekend for the first time in since the middle of May, and plan to spend it riding my bike and spending time with Amie. Doesn't get any better.
